Rock on Shays. I like the part about the Dem's jaw dropping. I guess they aren't used to the blunt truth. The time's are changing.

And if the Dems take the Senate, he will be chairing the Judiciary Committee.

Now THAT is a classic response that puts this issue clearly into perspective. Well done, I love it!

And I recall during the confirmation hearings for Ashcroft; the ex-senator from NH (Bob Smith, if memory serves correctly) stood up on the Senate Floor after Teddy went off on one of his tirades against Ashcroft, Senator Smith stated: "At least Mr. Ashcroft never left the scene of a crime". I stood up an cheered and sat down and laughed. It is about time pubbies started fighting back. They also need to start taking on the media, calling them out on their omissions and lies. It is past time to do so and it would really pump up the base.

Farrell said her "jaw dropped"

Dems thought that Republicans were too polite to "rock the boat." Surprise!!

I'd rather have an IM conversation with Foley then go on a drive with Teddy.

Heck, I'd rather got hunting with Dick Cheney. At least he hangs around to help.

This is an important point.

"Farrell said her "jaw dropped" when she heard Shay's comments, arguing Chappaquiddick had nothing to do with Hastert's current situation."

She's right--Shays can't somehow make Hastert look good for his inaction by making Kennedy look bad for his. It certainly makes it clear which party is the more experienced in corruption and coverup. But it hardly makes the GOP look better to say (as the Rats have done since I can recall) "Yeah, but he's dirty too!"

It's time to truly open fire. Since I've been on this website, I've read about more Democrat duplicity than I care to think about. And they never, ever do the right thing and step down.

Regards, Ivan

Her jaw dropped because she is not used to Republicans standing up with conviction. Usually the Rs keep their mouth shut when they should be talking and taking a hard line.

But it hardly makes the GOP look better to say...

Yes, it does. We make our guys walk the plank at the least hint of scandal, one of the few exceptions being McStain in the Keating Five scandal. He should have resigned.

The Dims do nothing or defend and cheer their far more serious congress-perps. Studds, Frank, the Kennedy's, William Jefferson. The only way to get a Dim out is if you convict him first.

Beyond that, in many parts of the country, you'd be surprised how many people remember Chappaquiddick. It's not about some rich politico getting away with manslaughter (or worse). It's the difference between how the average person is treated and how Kennedy was. And when it looked like he'd be the Dim nominee in '76 and '80, it really fueled it.

"Yes, it does. We make our guys walk the plank at the least hint of scandal..."

I haven't forgotten Chappaquiddick. I did my high school history final report on it. Teddy's a murdering sonofabitch, and when I visit the Capitol I always drop by his office to pick up a publicity photo of him for my dartboard.

But Shays' comment personifying the Rat party in Chappaquiddick Ted is merely distraction from the GOP weakness on ethics issues in this election. Times past, the GOP might have put forth that it was at least not scummy like the Rats. But years of business-as-usual porkbarreling under Hastert, his NOT kicking out Foley at 'the least hint of scandal,' and the feeble defense Hastert has been raising, those have certainly emboldened Rats. I realize this is a purely political dogfight, but the Rats wouldn't be making hay with the Foley follies if they had booted him at the 'least hint.' The Foley emails alone were the 'least hint of scandal.' Unless you think it's normal that a Congressman should be asking high school age kids for pictures, asking what they want for their birthday, and calling them at home.

So I agree it's a snappy political comeback, and probably even serves the ultimate end of the GOP here, which is to disgust the general populace with Congress (they're all bums, donchaknow), depress independent turnout across the board (why vote Rat, you'll just get more of the same), and keep only the activists engaged (which the GOP has more of and has better organized to turn out). But that all that is true and perhaps even in the interests of the GOP isn't the same as defending the GOP from the allegation that it did not expel Foley when it should have and defended a wanna-be child molester. To now say 'we're not as scummy as THEY are,' implicitly admits the GOP IS tarnished, too, and reminiscent of the Clinton rebuttal during his impeachment.

She said "Well, you had to go back pretty far on that one!"

Your reply could've been, "There is no statute of limitations on murder."

I saw a sticker against gun control. It said:

"Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my gun."
