Taxing one group but not another, based on really sketchy warm-and-fuzzy reasons? Bad, bad policy.

I agree. Why do they tax me to send their children to schools which everyone agrees are inadequate. Just so we can all feel good about doing something for the children. I say let them pay for their own daycare and get their education from the tube. Couldn't be any worse.

I’m just curious, say if a church forgoes its tax exemption...just how is it taxed...like a private club? A business?

I dont know that churches pay tax. The power to tax is the power to destroy, that is why churches have been exempt.
