I don't think this latest General Motors car-giveaway campaign -- where GM has partnered with conservative radio and TV talk-show host Sean Hannity -- is a very good idea.
The initial reaction of a substantial portion of readers will be this: "Of course you don't think it's a good idea, because you are a card-carrying member of the liberal drive-by media who want nothing more than to tear down all that is good and right with America!"
Well, yes, of course, that's certainly true, but that isn't why I think GM's giveaway is stupid. And though I think Sean Hannity is unctuous, he is blameless in this mess. This one's all GM.
Here's why: Sean Hannity is opinionated and outspoken. Many people disagree with his politics and don't want to listen to his show. Just as many people don't want to listen to Howard Stern, Bubba The Love Sponge, Rush Limbaugh, Al Franken (is he still on?), Michael Savage, or Orlando's own Rusty Humphries, Bud Hedinger, Doug Guetzloe or Jim Philips.
For General Motors to align itself with one host, one political party, one point of view, is a bad decision. Fair and balanced? Not this campaign. Here's how it works: Playing off Hannity's "You're a great American!" catchphrase -- callers typically greet him with, "Sean, you're a great American!" -- we get the "Sean Hannity You're a Great American Car Giveaway Presented by GM," which is the formal name of the promotion. "Sean Hannity wants to thank you for being a Great American. For the month of October, he's giving away a new car each week!"

I don't think it's such a hot idea either. Vannity looks like an idiot .............. not too much of a stretch at times.
Its ok for major companies to align with a liberal group, or even a radical homosexual group. But they'd better not align with a conservative group which represents the majority in this country. If they do that they are on the wrong path.
Idiot
Hannity should give away the following:
;-)
I didn't even think of that. An article like this is like blood in the water for the Sean Hannity (Reagan conservative) bashers and haters here.
Yeah, I ditto that.
Yet GM is using John 'Cougar' Mellonhead for their Chevvy commercials...and this man is a noted Anti-Bush anti-Iraq moron.......
Yep. GM is giving away cars on Sean Hanity's show. That's just frickin' nefarious, now, isn't it??
You draw some silly conclusions there. I don't hate Sean. It's just meant as constructive criticism.
I've written the following a number of times before, but here it is another time so you understand.
It's not bashing or hating as you prefer to say ..... it is CONCERN. Many conservatives consider him a very weak link as a conservative voice. He is a poor interviewer, he's a suck up to all liberals in sight, and he is a self-righteous and sanctimonious too often. We come on these Hannity threads in hopes that he will see these words ..... so that he WILL IMPROVE his skills. He needs to improve his skills.
Sean seems very sincere, good-hearted and well-intentioned; and he is enthusiastic - to say the least - about what he believes. He does have a message to communicate and he does not over-intellectualize that message (he can't).
Sean just needs to improve. He has the microphone............ he needs to improve.
That is why we come on these threads. And again, it is NOT hate........... it is love for conservatism, and Sean makes us look like a bunch of sanctimonious and arrogant politicos at times. It would be better if he dumped the car giveaway. (jmo)

And, by the way, his radio commercials play all day long on my station in Pittsburgh. He rants,I know the truth........... stay on the high ground and keep the personal out of it.
Sean does quite the opposite, calling names and ridiculing callers constantly.

So they advertise at gay pride rallies, Christian rock concerts, in gay magazines and on Sean Hannity. The way their balance sheet looks just now, i don't think GM is in a position to turn its back on any audience.
Steven Cole Smith is a pathetic whiner.
Some may think so....I dont. I just dont see GM as necessarily being a backer of Hannity and the cause. they are just getting their name on a popular form of media.
It may of course bite them on the bottom with the libs, so you may see this end quickly and silently if a full fledged effort by the left to boycott GM products goes forth.
Well, at least this guy admits that he's a card-carrying member of the liberal drive-by media who want nothing more than to tear down all that is good and right with America!
The problem for GM is that most conservatives... drive Toyotas, Hondas, Subarus (WRX); anything but a GM product.
