A leading Taliban commander in Afghanistan has been filmed brutally beheading eight men accused of spying for British and American forces.
The horrifying video broadcast by a Pakistan television station shows Mullah Dadullah - an elusive figure thought to lead the guerilla movement in southern Afghanistan - hacking off the victims' heads and placing them on their lifeless torsos.
The video is similar to those produced by al Qaeda and related militant groups who have kidnapped and then executed hostages in Iraq.
The chilling images are part of a concerted attempt by the Taliban to terrify ordinary Afghans out of cooperating with Western coalition forces.
Another sequence shows Dadullah personally signing 'tickets to heaven' for volunteer suicide bombers guaranteeing them entry to paradise if they martyr themselves.
The video was aired by the Pakistan Geo network as two more Canadian Nato soldiers were killed in fighting in southern Afghanistan, and an Italian news photographer was kidnapped amid continuing violence which has claimed some 2,500 lives so far this year.
Mullah Dadullah, a member of the Taliban's ruling council who lost a leg in fighting in the 1990s, claims to have some 12,000 men under his command and is credited with beheading numerous prisoners.
He has boasted of having hundreds of fighters ready to carry out suicide missions in Afghanistan, and claims the Taliban enjoys close links with Osama bin Laden's Al Qaeda movement.
A statement released with the latest video claims the eight men being beheaded were spies working for the 'Christians and crusaders', and identifies the executioner as Mullah Dadullah, although his face is not visible. Some of the bodies appear to be already dead before being butchered.
Dadullah is shown more clearly in other sequences walking through the mountain firing a machine gun, and signing 'tickets to heaven' and handing them to would-be martyrs, while a clerk enters their names in a ledger.
According to UK military officials the Taliban operates a sophisticated 'information campaign' in Afghanistan, using Pakistan-based satellite TV channels to spread anti-Western propaganda and show videos from leading figures.
The Ministry of Defence claims media reports in Britain and America are carefully monitored via the internet, and often distorted by the Taliban for their own purposes.
Forty British servicemen have now been killed in Afghanistan since the UK began military operations there in 2001, of whom 35 have died this summer since troops moved into the lawless southern province of Helmand to confront the Taliban and heavily-armed local militias and drug gangs.
Italian photographer Gabriele Torsello was reported to have been abducted on Thursday by five gunmen on a highway while driving on a bus from Helmand to neighbouring Kandahar province.
His captors are said to have answered Torsello's mobile phone claiming to be the Taliban, and accusing him of spying. A week ago two German journalists were shot dead in a relatively safe area of northern Afghanistan.
In separate reports yesterday Taliban officials in Kandahar province said they were prepared for a long fight, boasting that they had 'the guts to fight for 100 years' against coalition forces, and that they needed few resources because their fighters could operate barefoot in the mountains, eating only bread.

Ping!
I think you are on to something there....
SkyPilot posted this image on another thread today. Not related to the article, but I totally agree with you.
They can chop me, dice me, and stuff me in a wood chipper, but on judgement day I would not trade places with them, even if I had to die that way everyday for a million years.
Where's the ACLU (Afghanistan Civil Liberties Union) when you need it? He's probably operating within Geneva Unconventional Rules. /sarcasm
The mainstream media is unavailable for comment...........again.
When we're finished getting information from them they should be executed and disposed of, no live jihadists, no dead martyrs left over.
Meanwhile, the world was consumed with worry regarding whether the Guantanamo detainees had three hots, a cot, and a prayer rug!

Black Jack Pershing agrees with you.
Thanks and best wishes to UK citizens for standing with us, we will always remember.
Ugh! You know I agree with you.
Tell that to the demorat appeasers.
"These people are evil and should be destroyed."
How?
Hydrogen bomb.
"Hydrogen bomb."
What target?
Aww, I'm sure Mullah Dadullah's just trying to impress the admission couselors at Yale with a multi-media addition to his application packet...
...but of course he's trying to hard. After all, Yale took in Sayed Rahmatullah Hashemi - the former ambassador for the Taliban - in, no questions asked!

They should be photographed hanging from trees outside slaughterhouses for pork. Ream out the pig heads and place them over the ragheads' heads. Attach the hooves to their hands, and tail to their ass. Send the photos to Al-Jazeera with the caption, "Allah's reward" and "Suck on this, Mohammed."
Tehran.
