Civil Rights Lawyer Sentenced to 28 Months (Lynne Stewart)
WINS News ^ | 10/16/06

NEW YORK -- Civil rights lawyer Lynne Stewart was sentenced to 28 months in prison in federal court in Manhattan Monday. She was convicted of providing support to terrorists by helping a jailed Egyptian sheik communicate with his followers on the outside.

Before sentencing, her lawyer told the judge that any prison sentence for Stewart would be a death sentence because of her serious health problems.

Stewart pleaded with the judge to allow her to live out the rest of her life "productively, lovingly, righteously.''

Assistant US Attorney Andrew Dember rejected defense suggestions that Stewart's conduct was judged differently after
9-11.

"This case had nothing to do with September 11,'' Dember told the judge. "What she was doing was smuggling terrorism messages and smuggling out Abdel-Rahman's responses.''

When Stewart arrived at the courthouse this morning, about 150 supporters chanted "Free Lynne, Free Lynne.''

Federal prosecutors say she had released a statement by Omar Abdel-Rahman, a blind sheik sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted in plots to blow up five New York landmarks and assassinate Egypt's president.

You're right about her probably only serving 10 months, if that. To make the issue even more disgusting, she is allowed to remain free pending her appeal which could take a year or more.

The Lt. Col who was second in command at Abu Grab is facing a court martial and a potential 42 years prison sentence for knowingly or unknowingly allowing a few soldiers under his command to make detainees wear underwear over their heads?!?!?!

Let's see, 42 years in prison for possibly being aware of acts by a very few that may have caused someone embarassment versus 28 months in prison for aiding a known terrorist and treason.....yeah, that seems reasonable to me!?!?!!?

Sorry, I'm too tired to go through the entire thread. Has anyone mentioned that Soros bankrolled her defense? And they shopped the judge to make sure it was a leftie hack judge?

Don't know if that showed up on this thread (before now) or not. I suspect it did, if not on another.

This really makes me sick. And the judge installed by Clinton so long ago...a federal judge in NYC, his new "home," incidentally.

Scumbag traitors.

Please, pardon my lack of decorum, but just when I think the Clinton legacy couldn't get filthier; just when I think it couldn't burn its way deeper into the abyss; just when I think it can't possibly get any darker and suck in any more light...it outdoes itself.

Will she be disbarred because of this?

Treason has been known to cause serious health problems in the past. Not lately, though....

I don't know where you guys are coming up with this 10 month idea. She has no grounds for appeal since her sentence was such a drastic departure downward. The government will appeal and win, and her sentence will likely be longer than her remaining life.

What was the minimum sentence and what were the criteria for giving it?

Yes, the prosecutor can appeal a sentence. See my post at 125.

This is appalling. 28 months for essentially giving away her country. She was committing treason and she knew it. But that's okay, treason by the left gets a free pass. Treason by the right - such as Timothy McVeigh, who was obviously working with Iraq - gets the death penalty.

I think they should both get the death penalty, personally. And there is no way this evil, lying, treasonous woman should have gotten only 28 months.

Laura Ingraham also said that the left is trying to demoralize the "Christian Right," and trying to get them to stay home.

...(the left) is so confident they are going to win they are boldly talkin out about what they really believe in and will do once elected.

People usually gloat AFTER the election, and only AFTER they've won! LOL!

Her lawyer was right. The judge should have sentenced her to death.

Yes, that's true.

(Repeatedly hitting my head on keyboard.)

The Libs (Mc Lame included) will be the death of us all, if we give them the chance. We really do have to get out and vote!
