Every so often my DSL goes berserk, and I can't get online.
My son the tech has learned there is no sleep on those nights. Not until it works.

Hmm, you don't think they want to make people feel guilty about the Internet so we'll turn back to MSM for our "news?"Yeah, it couldn't be an attempt to get the well meaning families of the 'addicted addicts' in the pajamahaddeen to shut them the hell up by getting them off the internet, could it?

The United States could be rife with Internet addicts as clinically ill as alcoholics, an unprecedented study released suggested. Researchers at Stanford University School of Medicine in Silicon Valley said their telephone survey indicated more than one of every eight US residents showed at least one sign of "problematic Internet use."
Well then for goodness sake, let's amend the DSM so that psychologists can bill for treating all these very sick folks.
What shall we call this dreadful condition? Compulsive Internet Disorder?

the typical Internet addict was a single, college-educated, white male in his 30s, who spends approximately 30 hours a week on non-essential computer use. Ouch. 30 hours a week? Amateurs. I do have to say that I *am* married... to a woman who I met online, and who uses the Internet just as much as I do.

I'm using a tabbed browser (Opera) with 10 tabs open right now. Plus 2 solitare games going and a program to learn Italian. I think if people are only spending 30 hours a week on line they're not really trying hard enough. ;)

Ask yourself these questions:
Do I Freep alone?
Do I look forward to that first visit to FR each day?
Do I schedule my day around FR?
Do I devise ways to hide the fact that I am on FR?
Do I associate with others who visit FR frequently?
Do I avoid people who do NOT FReep?
If my doctor tells me I need to cut back on FReeping, do I seek out a different doctor?
If you answered yes to any five of these questions, you are probably a FReepaholic and should seek help from a licensed professional.

Damn. I'm in.
Ironic part was, I was headed out for evening...and decided to hit the refresh button just one more time and boom...there was your post. Enabler.
I think I would be considered a functional Freepaholic. I pop in and out all day long between other tasks and no one is the wiser. I think.
When's the first meeting?

Heidelberg, 25 June 1462. The Holy Roman Empire could be rife with Book addicts as ill as plague sufferers, an unprecedented study released suggested.
Researchers at Heidelberg University said their survey indicated more than one of every eight thousand Empire residents showed at least one sign of "problematic Book use."
The findings backed those of previous, less rigorous studies, according to Heidelberg University.
Most disturbing was the discovery that some people hid their Book reading, or read to cure foul moods in ways that mirror knights abusing peasants, according to the study's lead author, Johannes Krankmann.
"In a sense, they're using Books to self-medicate," Krankmann said. "And obviously something is wrong when people go out of their way to hide their reading activity."
According to preliminary research, the typical Book addict was a single, schooled, white male in his 30s, who spends approximately 30 hours a week just reading printed matter.
