A big swing by Albert Pujols and another playoff gem from a rejuvenated Jeff Weaver put the St. Louis Cardinals on the cusp of the World Series.
Pujols' homer helped the Cardinals get to Tom Glavine at last, and Weaver shut down the New York Mets for a 4-2 victory Tuesday night and a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven NL championship series.

Yipppppppeeeeeee Go Cardinals!!!!!!!!!!!
Go Cards!!!!
Thank You,Jesus!!!!
DreamWeaver is a Met Killer!!
Oh well, a '68 slapdown is in order.
Now they just have to win ONE in NYC, and they've got Carp and Sup going.
It won't take seven games this time.
I've got to say the Tigers have the best collection of FLAME-THROWERS (not Rogers, of course) I've seen in a LONG time! They'll have a full week of rest, so their arms will be fresh. But with young fireballers, that can sometimes be a disadvantage, since their control is off.
Go Cards!!!
We've seen that a lot, like in game one. Sure some wild stuff, but when a pitcher can can toss several 103+ mph in a row whether a strike or not it gets back to what baseball was before steroids.
"Swing and a miss!"
Rogers may not be a blow torch, but doubtful any Card relishes batting against him in the World Series.
Jeff freakin Weaver? Jeff Weaver?
I'm so mad right now I could scream. The Mets are one game from elimination now because Jeff freakin Weaver shut them down twice in less than a week. I'm speechless.
btw, I never, never, never want to see Steve Trachsel pitching in a Mets uniform again.
"But with young fireballers, that can sometimes be a disadvantage, since their control is off."
Batters' timing goes awry after a too-long rest as well.
Won't be surprised to see the Cards (or Mets, for that matter) win the first game, but I can't see either team beating the Tigers this year; this year is closer to 1984 than 1968, baseball-wise as well as chronologically-wise speaking.
Weaver has been a force. Where did that come from? Cards limped into the playoffs but have been stellar since.
I don't see C Carp losing, but who knows. Good luck in Game 6.

I like how the media describe Rogers as teh Wily (or Crafty) Veteran. That's true, and I'm a big fan of the term.
This is about revenge for Curt Flood slipping on Northrup's fly ball in the 7th game (if you have to ask the year, go away, amateur), and GIBSON losing because of that unlucky event (when did Flood EVER slip on a very catchable fly prior to that? Answer: never.)
''With a Flash out of Fordham, they knocked in runs and scored 'em''
''The Gas House Gang was full of fight and nerve.''
''The Redbirds were the rage; the 'Wild Horse of the O-sage' ''
''And Paul and Dizzy were keepin' 'em busy with heat and curves...''
LaRussa's such a genius manager, eh -- but CAN'T manage to give Carpy a start at home, where he's been effectively untouchable for 2 years.
Memo to LaRussa: the world don't care about the regular season, got it, Tony?
(...mutter...grr...just hoping Carpenter will overcome the artificial disadvantage put on him by the vegetarian can't-win-a-World-Series turkey).
Gobble freakin' gobble, with an Italian accent.
