Student Says Mention of 'Prayer' Enrages Professor
Agape Press ^ | October 17, 2006 | Jim Brown

(AgapePress) - "For Christ and Humanity." That's the motto of Olivet College in Michigan, where a Christian student says he was punished by one of his professors for making a reference to God in the classroom.

Olivet College freshman Jeremiah Bannister, an aspiring journalist, claims he was recently the target of anti-Christian bigotry and grade retaliation in his "Writing and Rhetoric" class. Bannister says Professor Austin Jackson, a Sunni Muslim, took exception to an essay he and another student had written opposing affirmative action and slavery reparations.

The freshman shares that when he was asked by the professor to voice his personal opinion on what African-Americans can do to overcome historical prejudice, one of his suggestions was prayer -- a response that upset the educator.

"He was very, very angry about it," says Bannister, "[and] said that invoking God in class was unacceptable; that it was anti-intellectual, that it was belligerent, and [that] it was completely unacceptable in his classroom. And he actually docked us 10 points from our grade because I invoked God in my opinion of what could be done."

According to Bannister, he was instructed to never mention anything about God or Jesus in the classroom. He says he has talked to the school about the situation.

"I guess there were numerous standards of the school handbook policy that were broken by the professor in doing what he did, but they are going to be addressing the problem," says the student, who suspects he may be asked represent other Christian students before school officials.

"I may also have to speak before the administration of the school on the issue of the treatment of Christians and the Christian worldview on campus, and the general feeling amongst many Christian students that we are being marginalized and even oppressed in many areas and treated badly."

Jackson, who is a doctoral student in the African American and African Studies Program as well as a full-time professor at Michigan State University, is an open proponent of communism.

Yeah. I would have had to do an exorcism of him in class to 'cast out that daemon worshiping the moon and pederasty'. That would have been cool.

I doubt the dude is tenured.

Gotta love this: He is co-author of several published articles on the use of Hip Hop and African American Rhetoric to enhance student literacy and stimulate transformative social action.

Wow, have they got a foothold in Michigan.

What a PC-crazed college that must be to employ an anti-Christian Sunni Muslim to teach! And what in the world are Christian parents thinking when they pay big bucks to have their children subjected to persecution in such a place?

"Expendable" is the word...

My wife is taking classes to finish up her degree and obtain a teaching certificate in the state of Texas...

She recently took a class on Bilingual Education (required course) and a recent assignment was to write a paper based upon an interview she had to conduct with "anyone" and have that person answer questions about what they know and understand about "Bilingual Education"...

Other than 2 grammer errors (Capitalizing "bilingual education"), she recieved a 74 on her paper...

"James" the person she interviewed (shhhhh, it was me) had some good and some critical things to say about the program...

So you can see where it appears to be disingenuous from a position of the professor to give her the grade, just because she interviewed someone who is not a "rah rah" proponent of this program...

"grade retaliation" seems to be something my wife can pursue if this paper seriously damages her grade in the course and her overall GPA...

Somehow, someway we must really investigate the need to seriously flush these slime out of our educational system at ALL levels...

...you've hit the nail on the head...in the universities, public schools and public libraries sanitized 'education' about Islam is all the rage...our library showcased a bunch of Islamophilic books (including the latest from our friend Michael Moore) and is offering evening 'classes' about same...they don't have to hit us again to win the war, we are winning it for them ourselves...

Dunno if eliminating tenure would be a good thing. Just think - most of the board and faculty of most unversities are liberals, if not commies and socialists. Who are the going to rid of first - the few conservative professors who made it past the process, or their fellow travelers?

With all we know about this "doctoral" student who is instructing at this school...

Why did they hire this guy at all, given tha fact that the schools motto is religious in content, in the first place???

"Ah, yes. That's what's needed today to guide young minds in America's colleges and universities: atheist, communist, haters of our nation to confound willing skulls full of mush!"
Well, the article said the professor was a Muslim, not an atheist. In either case, what he did was bigoted and wrong, I hope he is punished accordingly by his superiors.

Austin is ...., and served four years active duty (1990 - 1994) aboard the fast attack submarine U.S.S. Boise (SSN-761).

Here in Spain, the Spanish government is paying the full cost of a set of books to be used for public school classes in Islam (other religions, or at least the Catholic religion, have to pay for their religious instruction books themselves). The books will be sold through mosques with the entire price going to the mosque; the other books are purchased in bookstores.

And to make it worse, the books are being published by a Catholic press owned by the Marist Fathers, who say they are doing it to encourage understanding among religions. Fat lot of understanding they´d get from the Muslims, but they´re such useful idiots that maybe the Muzzies will cut their heads off last.

You´re right, we really are fighting the Islamicists´ war for them.
