ANNAPOLIS (AP) -- The number of Marylanders requesting absentee ballots already exceeds the number of absentee votes cast in the last gubernatorial election, and requests are still coming in at a rapid rate, with three weeks left until the Nov. 7 general election. A law that took effect this year removed all restrictions on the use of absentee ballots, which previously were available only to voters who could not make it to the polls on Election Day.

This is the first bit of pre-election news that has me truly worried...
"The number of Marylanders requesting absentee ballots already exceeds the number of absentee votes cast in the last gubernatorial election,"
It probably exceeds the number of registered voters. Check the names against those on tombstones.
I got my Arizona mail-in ballot yesterday, completed it last night and will put it in the mail this afternoon.
Voted straight Republican ticket.
There's kickoff. Now the rest of my FReeper friends need to turn out too. And get a few Republican friends to the polls as well.
I wonder if mid terms will be decided by 08 anyway? All the recounts and court hearings etc...
Maryland had some voting machine/poll worker problems in the most recent primaries. There are alot of folks that don't trust either of them, so they are going to vote by absentee ballot.
Actually I thought that early voting at polls favored conservatives.
Here in Texas everyone can participate in early voting (and I typically do) but only people who meet certain criteria can mail in a ballot. Part of that criteria is that you will be out of the area on election day AND during the several weeks of early voting.
Mail in ballots may not be tabulated until after the election and in some cases are never tabulated (if the election is not close). Add to that tales of mailmen sitting on absentee ballots, I think it is a good alternative to electronic ballots but I do not find it to be a safe method of voting.
From the article:
"As of yesterday afternoon, election boards in Baltimore and the 23 counties had reported receiving 87,588 requests from 40,565 Democrats, 38,161 Republicans, and independents or members of minor parties."
This is in a pro-dem state too.
A lot of people don't like to stand in line.
Sounds like a lot of ACORN nuts are TAKING ROOT...........
Why?
You mean there are some people who do like to stand in line?..............
I have to stand in line for early voting (they consolidate polling centers) but I'm sure that I've cast my vote (no worry about the flu or traffic or weather).
I went to vote on an "off cycle" election day one time in Houston and 59 at 610 was shut down (over 500,000 cars travel there every day). SHUT DOWN for construction. I found that suspicious; this was only a one day project that did that during daylight.
For voting I don't mind - I get to socialize with a lot of neighbors and friends that way. I also take the kid along and indoctrinate her in conservative voting orthodoxy. :)
You mean you're sre you vote is cast because Diebold favors Republicans ... :) Dims might not be so sanguine. ;)
Here in Houston, Vietnamese still vote by paper ballot (English and Spanish speakers vote by electronic ballot). So if I can learn Vietnamese, I can still use a paper ballot.
acorn, the commie group is notorious for manipulating absentee ballots.
They will get the requests from innocent minded republicans and never file them so then they never have a chance to vote.
Ah! I LOVE the smell of a ROVE plot in the afternoon!
The 2 highest turn out votes ever in California were both Republican victories (Arnold, and Pete Wilson) high turn out in blue states may not be as bad for us as average turn out in blue states is.
I vote, at the polls, on election day. Will vote straight R, my husband will vote straight R, our friends are voting straight R.
