Opponents have argued that the use of the lethal injection is unconstitutionally cruel and painful and that the procedure is often carried out without specifically trained medical personnel present. The key here--requiring medical personnel would outlaw lethal injection by fiat, as the AMA forbids its members from actively participating in capital punishment.

I know that in Texas they like to have a doctor on hand to pronounce the man dead. This way they can avoid having to do an autopsy. But the death sentence is actually carried out by others.

That may be the case, but not all physicians are AMA members. I never have been. It's quite liberal. However, state medical boards may also take adverse actions against physicians that participate in executions. That's probably the greater concern.

( ~()):~)>) I love it. It sort of reminded me of a Cirque du Soleil guy I've seen on TV. Let's see. I take it you are a happy guy with a goatee above a double chin and only a few hairs left above that wrinkled brow and maybe wearing a ball cap. Of course, it's none of my business.
