Vyacheslav Pozgalyov, governor of the Vologda region, about 250 miles northeast of Moscow, set up a working group including a deputy governor and top environmental protection officials to look into the August incident, said his spokeswoman Yevgenia Toloknova. Seems they get right on any bear shootings. But then reporters aren't a protected species.

I worked with a guy a few years ago who wasn't all there. One day during lunch he blurted out of the blue "the king of Spain, Juan Carlos is the Antichrist" The rest of us kind of looked at each other an rolled our eyes.

Wonder what caliber he used. A .375 H&H in a fine Holland & Holland rifle would be the romantic choice, I think...

I have this mental image of King Juan and Vladi out bear hunting in Russia somewhere, vodka in hand, and Vladi turns around to Juan and says "Wouldn't it be fun if we got the bear as drunk as we are!!"

Or it could've been a "hold my drink and watch this" moment.

This was a common practice behind the iron curtain in the old days when a senior official's failed hunting trip could land someone in a gulag.

Naturally, a heavy, drunken animal became an easy target. No kidding.

I hope they hold a memorial for the poor formerly joyful good natured bear.
He might have been just a bear but he didn't deserve
to be assassinated like that.
This is just creepy.
