Duckworth running low on campaign cash McSweeney has more money left than Bean

October 17, 2006 BY SCOTT FORNEK Political Reporter After filling the airwaves with television commercials, Democrat Tammy Duckworth is heading into the crucial final weeks of the west suburban 6th Congressional District contest with a severely depleted campaign war chest.

She had just $206,381 in the bank at the end of last month, while Republican rival Peter Roskam had $1,500,950.

The numbers were closer in the area's other hot congressional race, the northwest suburban match between Democratic incumbent Melissa Bean and GOP challenger Dave McSweeney.

Those are the highlights in the federal fund-raising reports on file Monday, covering activity for July, August and September.

Duckworth, a wounded Iraq war veteran from Hoffman Estates, raised $962,940 during the period and spent $1,658,253 -- $913,188 of that on TV commercials that began in late September but have since ended.

Roskam, a state senator from Wheaton, raised $592,233 and spent $430,837

Is this a GOP incumbent? Or another potential pickup?

Duckworth is running in a very Republican district in Illinois. That she has done so well to date is more that she has an incredible story to tell about her noble service in Iraq. However, now that that story has pretty much run its course voters are looking at the substance of views between the candidates. On that score Tammy Duckworth is VERY liberal, and while admiring her service, voters will ultimately reject her political views in November.

I believe a signficant number of voters decide who to vote for in the last week or two of the race.

I believe that the Democrats are running low on money in virtually all areas.

I believe the Democrats will have to decide to target their limited funds in only a few areas, basically giving up on a large number of areas.

I believe the Republicans are well funded and fully prepared to adopt a "disproportionate" approach to advertising in the closing weeks.

Tammy Duckworth was recruited by Rahm Emmanuel and you are correct, she is playing a bait and switch campaign.

Just look at the first link in my reply #1. She would be a nancy pelosi clone(pro-abortion, pro-homosexual marriage, raise taxes, etc.etc.)

Duckworth NEVER mentions the fact that she is a Democrat. Never. She's trying to fool people, however, per capita this is a very educated district. She may win, although I think Roskam will win in the end. I actually think he may be a true conservative.

I think it has hurt her that she says one thing in the district, and another to national liberal groups.

For instance, she told gay groups that she supported open gays in the military, and on the campaign trail in the district she says she doesn't. I think we can see how she'll really vote.

There was a time a pol could do that with impunity. Today, the information gets out. What happens in DC doesn't stay in DC. Ask Tom Daschle, who used to run as a conservative at home, and then go to DC with the dual missions of pushing the left-lib social agenda, and piling up dirty money via his wife's "consulting" (spelled "access") racket.

If Duckworth pulls it off -- polls show her close to a tie -- then she's going to be in an up-or-out position. She can't vote her liberal conscience and get re-elected in this district, so after two years she will have to run for some statewide election where Chicago liberals can buoy her chances.

Is this the Lesbian?

No she is married, but she did move into the district for the purpose to run for this seat(i.e carpetbagging), and also like I said before she was recruited by rahm emmanuel and is putting on a faux moderate political face, when in actuality she is a nancy pelosi clone politically.

I think it has hurt her that she says one thing in the district, and another to national liberal groups.

Then it is absolutely critical for the Roskam campaign to do sharp contrast ads to point this out!

You are correct that if she does not win here look for here to move to a more hospitable district or, as you said run for statewide office so that she can be saved by the liberal bastion of Chicago.

This woman is only a stooge for Rahm Emmauel. She's betraying her former comrades, siding with the crowd that would give Al Queda the victory they could not win on the battlefield. She doesn't need money--she has scads of fawning free publicity from a Chicago media that shares the democrats' desire for a strategic American defeat in the war on terror. And the foreign America-hating Daddy Warbucks Soros is always in reserve, with millions at hand for when its most needed.
