Yep.....eliminated the spin to win scenario. lol

I was just trying to get Jr to the top. My first try was probably the better for everyone involved.

On a more serious note....

Thoughts, prayers, and get-well wishes to Steve Maynard, a member of Dale Earnhardt Inc.'s #15 and #11 teams, who was involved in a head-on automobile collision near DEI on Wednesdsay. Steve is listed in critical condition after breaking both his legs, his arms, his pelvis, and sustaining internal injuries.

on 144 they've been playing a scenerio where the winner gets 50 bonus but more important the point are level from 30th back.

not as much a penalty if ya have a bad day and field fillers and wounded cars aren't out in the way to catch 2-3 positions possibly causing others a bad day...

If they get the same amount of points from 30th on back, it will reduce the amount of "modifieds" going back on the track to pick up 3 points per position, but it seems to leave 10 or more guys in a do-or-die situation, and figuring they're back there for something other than an accident (i.e. less qualified drivers) then they might be more likely to pull out all the stops to get to 30th... no? Hmmmm. I've gotta think that one through some more.

I keep trying to give Flash a bonus for finishing in the 24th spot last week. Sort of a "match your number" and get a bonus. Still can't get him above 2nd!

Try to pick a number for this week, then we'll see what bonus it is worth. 2nd, 4th, 24th, 42nd. Go ahead, pick.

Flash will probably win this week since I didn't pick him. And he usually does real good after a bad run too. :)

Behind the Hauler Chat with Jr re: Terry Labonte....

ON TERRY LABONTE: "I have one story I will never forget. He and my Dad had a friendship that was really unique. They hunted and stuff together and anybody that hung with my Dad was cool as hell to me you know what I mean. If they got to go on a hunting trip with my Dad, I never got invited. I am 'Like Wow, he likes Terry, Terry must be really cool.'

"I was St. Louis in 1997 in my second or third Busch race and I pull out on pit road for practice, I don't know where I am at, I don't know this race track, I don't know nothing. I got this crappy old car and out there in the middle of all these guys waiting in line and I am trying to figure out if I am in the way, I don't know what I am doing. Terry pulls up besides me in his car, it was just weird to be setting next on that piece of asphalt, sharing that race track with him. At that point in my career, I don't know how old I was, but I hadn't really done anything significant as far as wins or anything. I didn't consider myself anything but a tryout. There I was sitting to who was the defending Cup champion, he won in l996 I believe, he is a man of few words. I was just very overwhelmed to be sitting next to him to go out to practice. I will never forget it, that was one of the first highlights of my career.

"We were in Watkins Glen, he and Dad went hunting but I don't know how much they talked. I had known him for years and never said one word to him or him one word to me, you know. He never talked to anybody, at least that was the impression he gave. I was sitting in my motorhome and him, Kenny Schrader and Dale Jarrett, Rusty Wallace and I don't know who else, a bunch of guys were hanging out and riding around the infield like they do on Friday nights, goofing off and giving all the guards crap and stuff. They go back to Schrader's bus, which was parked next to mine, Schrader always likes to come talk to me and he comes in and says 'Hey man, we are over at my bus, come on over.' So I go over there, I am standing there, this was three or four years ago, being around guys my Dad raced with kinda of made me feel overwhelmed a little bit. There I am sitting in the bus, they are talking guy stuff, old veteran talk. I am just sitting there and Schrader says come on over here and I said what do you want me to come over there for. Terry was sitting next to me and he nudges me and says 'Hey, I see you are still not wearing the Hans Device, this was before the rule, and he said, 'You ought to wear one, I would like to see you stick around for a while. Those were the first words the man ever said to me in my life. So the next week I immediately starting wearing the Hutchins Device, but he pushed it and if Terry Labonte asks you to do it, you do it."

Here's Smoke's thoughts on the Chase contenders and points.

At Dover in the second race of the Chase, Stewart spun and collected Chase contender Kasey Kahne, who was saddled with a 39th-place finish.

"I'd give the top 10 their own points structure these last 10 races to where the other 33 guys in the field don't dictate how many or how little points they get," Stewart said. "It shouldn't be that way; it would be like a team that is not in the playoffs interfering with the playoffs.

"That is the only thing that I would do, and it could be done very easily the way the system is now."

and on the COT.....snip~

"I finally got to see one painted," said Stewart, speaking at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Thursday, where PowerAde presented his charitable foundation with a $100,000 check. "I thought it would look a lot better with paint on it, and it didn't look any better.

"It is still really ugly. When you're used to seeing real slick racecars and you see that, it doesn't look like it's a step forward."

Thanks for that points system link. I have been meaning to write my own program to do just that (I may still do so to go back and recalculate past years too).

My point system:
1st thru 10th - 80,60,50,45,40,35,30,25,20,15 pts
11th thru 15th - 10 pts
16th thru 20th - 5 pts
Bonus points:
5 for leading lap
5 for most laps lead
10 for pole
5 for second pole

Max points per race is 100.
Only top twenty get any points (no more coming back on the track 30 laps down to try and pick up 3 or so points).
Premium on winning and high finish over consistency (look what happens to Stewart and Martin)
And most important: NO CHASE!

New standings:

1 17 Matt Kenseth
