KANSAS CITY, Missouri (CNN) -- "War on the Middle Class" is the title of my new book and our special report on CNN. Wednesday we broadcast live from the front lines of this all-out war, and we talked to American families facing the tough issues that are all but being ignored by our elected officials in Washington. Our middle class is the largest group of people in the country, but they are also the least represented in our nation's capital.
It's been a tough decade for the American middle class, which has been experiencing stagnant wages in the face of rapidly increasing costs for health care and prescription drugs, soaring energy prices and escalating tuition costs. But worst of all, the middle class is up against a Congress that is driven by powerful corporations and dominant special interests.
Bob in Louisiana is also fed up with our leaders in Washington, and I suspect he has more than a little company. Bob wrote: "What ever happened to the concept in which politicians were elected to do the will of the people? Regardless of what the polls show the American people want done, it seems our brilliant elected officials always find a way to do just the opposite. What part of 'of the people, by the people, and for the people' don't they understand?"
Finally, James in Idaho is thinking the unthinkable: "The middle class is a purposeful construct, a buffer keeping the poor from the throats of the rich. The continued destruction of the middle class will result in class warfare, social strife, social revolution in our country, if the trend is not reversed."

instead of the interests of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (which is not a Democracy, but a Demonocracy or incubator of Terrorist Theocracy) or Mexico ("Me Casa es su Casa", My White House is your White House, a refuge and sanctuary for illegal immigrants)
Once you destroy the Middle Class in the United States, you destroy the country, all the kings horses and all the kings men won't be able to put Uncle Sam back together again.
George Washington in his farewell address warned about the love of a political party instead of the interests of the country.
Bump - Lou tells it like it is !!!
louie is a bitter liberal and that is why CNN loves him.
LOL! louie is a Monica for CNN.
all you can do is attack the messenger not the message.
you don't possess any ideas.
Workers Of The World Unite!!!
Dane, I just have ONE question for you. What part of ILLEGAL do you not understand ?
LOL! My idea is not to increase taxes, ala socialist louie dobbs.
And a question for you, why do you support louie dobb's socialism.
Which one of these stinking lying bastards from the Democrats or the Republicans is going to represent the interests of the United States of America?? Evidentally, it's a difficult theoretical abstract idea - to represent the interests of the United States.

This guy is so full of sh*t, his eyes are brown.
It is the libs only hope they can convince middle America, that they are in truly bad shape.........and it ain't happening.
The big picture is that secular progress has done so much for the little guy that an American secretary today would be ill-advised to trade circumstances with Queen Victoria (1819-1901). She didn't have anything made of plastic or anything that ran on electricity or gasoline or jet fuel. She was empress of India, but she couldn't travel to India as readily as an American secretary could today.
And although she lived to about 82, she was a depressed widow for about 20 years after her husband died at the age of 60. That can still happen to an American secretary, but what with pacemakers, cardiac catheterization, pharmaceutical advances, X-rays and even MRIs and CAT scans, her odds that her husband will live to 70 or more are considerably better, as are the odds that her children will all survive her.
The "poor" American today is at risk of obesity, and has a standard of living that was considered middle class when I was living that way fifty years ago.
Real progressives are called "conservative" in America - and the people who call themselves "progressives" are the ones who want the government to undermine the incentive structure which is the engine of progress.
You are a brave freeper. My hats off to you. You and I are Teddy Roosevelt conservatives. Many freepers think absolute free trade is good for the country and that government should not place any limits on it. Would these freepers let corporations sell our best military technologies to China, Venezeula, Iran, North Korea and etc? I guarantee these countries would be more than eager to buy it even if the price is twice what our government pays for it. I guarantee the corporate bottom line would look great in terms of profit for Wall Street. No freeper (even free traders) would advocate such trade policy because there is the interest of the nation that must be considered. My question to the Lou Dobb detractors is, isn't preserving the middle class as a social safety valve and buffer from class warfare a worthy national interest? Not every one can go to college and land a high paying job serving corporate America. During Teddy Roosevelt's time the interest of the new emerging rich industrialists and rising factory working class clashed as our nation transition from agriculture to industrial. TR did not side with either, he used government to balance the two interests based on what was in the long term interest for the country. In the global economy we face a similar problem, free trade cannot be conducted at the expense of the middle class nor preservation of the middle class at the expense of trade. There needs to be a balance, and until some political leader emerges like TR, this country will remain divided and discontent with the two current political parties.
The neo-conservatives, free trading globalist are not really consrvative at all. They are very liberal, but they control the so called conservative Republican party and are better then the out and out facist/commiunist Democratic party. Wish we had a conservative party here in the usa. I think there is a chance to move the Republican party back to the right in 08. (we have to support R's in this election to prevent Rats from taking over.) 8 years of neocons policies had proved to be an almost complete failure. The only thing that worked was the conservative idea of lower taxes increasing economic activity. Every other major move by the globalist neocons has failed.
Thank you for your thoughts, you hit the nail on the head.

CNN Airs Terrorist Sniper Killing US Soldier Del Williams
October 19, 2006
CNN aired a terrorist sniper killing a US soldier. They blacked out the screen when the bullet hit, but that did not stop the sound or description that they went on to share.
According to CNN, The graphic video of 10 sniper attacks was obtained by CNN -- through intermediaries --from the Islamic Army of Iraq, one of the most active insurgent organizations in Iraq.
Are critics correct in their assessment that CNN is full of terrorist sympathizers? Well, after their report on In the Footsteps of Bin Laden, there might be a case.
Why did the terrorist feel confident in sending CNN the footage? They did not just receive one tape, but multiple; all confirmed in the validity of the actions that the sniper took.
One of CNNs analysts called the sniper attacks the most effective thing they have seen. The deadly tactic is one the U.S. military also uses to take out insurgents, according to CNN. They seem be telling them how good they are at using our strategies to kill our men.
Whether someone agrees with the war or not is immaterial. The point is that some people have the audacity to kill our men and send our news organizations the footage to show of it. That takes a lot of chutzpah for any enemy that America has. It takes even more for an American owned company to broadcast.
I know that there is freedom of the press, but has CNN ever heard of decency? Do they think because they are Friends with the enemy that that will stop them from kidnapping one of their journalists? Perhaps it was just a showing to beat the competition, but maybe the competition has enough class not to show an American being gunned down by a terrorist.
Freepers, who post CNN bs and to same the Republican Party and those of us who back President Bush are worse humans than the liberals who admit who they are.
Is the middle class becoming wealthier or poorer?
No wonder more middle class Americans own homes and are invested in the stock market today than ever before.
Yeah, looks like all that free trade is really killing us. It's killing us so bad that our household net worth is at an all time high of $53.3 trillion, which is more than doubled what it was in 1995.
Are you one of the cut and run conservatives who's planning on staying home this election? I think most people are smart enough to know it's better to support the party that gets you a lot of what you want rather than the party (Dem, third-party or otherwise) that gives you nothing that you want.
Lou Dobbs is not an idiot, he's a charlatan who knows exactly what to say to get the ratings he needs to keep his pockets full. The idiots are the ones who enable this kind of nonsense by defending him and his fabrications.
