Great interview.
I ordered the book from Amazon. I don't usually buy political books, but this is one I want to own and perhaps persuade a few people to read.
I wish I'd realize you could get a signed copy from his website.

MS: Yes, and I think its simply a mistake to argue about whether a war is a mistake. Once youre in it, I think the best thing to do is to win it.Are you listening Jonah you birk? And other conservatives who want to bail? The die is cast - we must win!

"...I dont think its possible to take Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, the Democratic Party of these two people, and Howard Dean seriously on this issue. They have not engaged seriously with it. And as I said on the domestic front, theyre wedded to the solutions that have in fact turned Europeans into a weak continent thats sort of mortgaging its future to deeply hostile forces every passing month."
Elsewhere he said that the Democrats, when they last held the presidency, engaged in reworking government regulations so that the toilets would flush less water down the drain and punted every serious issue down the road for someone else to tend to.

I just read the book. It paints a very, very scary picture.
I am disheartened to contemplate some of the steps that we will be forced to take over the next thre or four decades. The world will never be the same.

What's killed socialism is demographics. Welfare states in the end face a natural death because the structure on which their effectiveness rests isn't being replicated. Not enough people are born who can work to support every one else. Its a pleasant fantasyland and Europeans obviously want to keep it going as long as they can. But at some point something's got to give and they'll face more than a minor accounting hiccup. It'll be a full blown societal crisis in every sense of the word. As Mark Steyn says do we really want to be like Europe: a geriatic and dying civilization. I think when its framed in those terms there are more than enough good reasons for American separateness. When all is said and done, the important thing to remember from the title of Steyn's book is that like the Europeans, we can't count on fellow family to protect anymore 40-50 years down the road. America will have to take care of itself. Because literally and metaphorically that kinship network will no longer be around. And with regard to the War On Terror, we can't disengage as the Democrats and Cut N Run Conservatives would like since it has implications not only for the future of American power and will - the truth is we face an enemy bent on exporting its social pathologies here. We got a glimpse of the kind of future on 9/11. In the final analysis, whatever the Left and the squishy Republicans want to believe there is no return to the 9/10 world. The holiday from history is not going to re-emerge in our own lifetime.

I too think this is a great interview. I greatly enjoyed listening to it:
http://www.townhall.com/TalkRadio/Show.aspx?RadioShowID=5
go to show #10.
I find that I can get direct access on Windows. On the Mac, I subscribe to Hewitt (Prager, Bennett, etc.), choose a file to download, and listen in iTunes.
My wife has introduced me to earphones. This works great when I'm playing chess on-line (handle FreeRepublic). But really great interviews, like this one, force me to "rewind" and listen again.
Rush is great! But he's getting a little competition. The real loser is T.V. news.
