Close Encounters (an israeli's near death experience leads to vision re: war with islam)

Avraham Yosef was 25 years old when he died for the first time. "I was an electrician, and I was working in an industrial building when I unplugged the drill I was using, slipped, and got electrocuted,"...

"I screamed and then lost consciousness," he says. "My brother who was working with me heard me scream and called an ambulance. But by the time they got me to the emergency room, I was dead."

At Jerusalem's Shaare Zedek hospital, doctors administered paddles to his chest and attempted to defibrillate his heart, but to no avail. Minutes later, they declared Yosef dead, but suggested to the family that they double the electrical voltage of the defibrillator in an attempt to shock his heart and resuscitate him. He was already dead, they reasoned, and therefore it would do no harm to try.

The family agreed, and the voltage was increased to 1000 watts - a quantity the physicians admitted they had never attempted when administering an electric shock to a patient's heart. Yosef's heart began to beat again, albeit faintly, and the relieved doctors reported that he was alive.

But Yosef had been clinically dead for seven minutes, and the risks of brain damage were high, they warned his family, and chances were that due to the trauma his brain suffered, he would never be the same again.

When he awoke days later, Yosef was in a severely weakened state and had no memory of the accident. Upon returning home two weeks later, his wife had to take care of him as one would a baby...

And then suddenly, while sitting at home one day, Yosef remembered everything, and as his doctors predicted, he would never be the same again.

I posted this "believe or not" article in News/Activism because the "vision" of Avraham Yosef speaks to the current political and military problems of Israel.

This article is published in the Magazine Section of the Jerusalem Post today and should get wide readership in Israel.

That has to be the most boring NDE I've ever read. Figures it'd come from the son of a rabbi. It's basically the warning over Soddom and Gomorrah all over again for Israel.

This struck me as a undermining the while enterprise, though:

"the Arab nations will conquer Israel for a period of nine months to a year, after which God will perform a miracle and free us from their oppression, willing us to repent and reform"

If God wills us to repent and reform, why is he threatening Israel unless they repent and reform? Just wave the magic wand, already, and stop blaming people for what you can do yourself. Oy!

NDE's experiences seem to be universal. In every case, someone who has had one had their entire personality transformed and they lost all their fear of death and a greater zest for living. Its as if God told them: "you will be taken care of and be safe with Me when your time comes but now is not your time and you still have things to do in this world til then."

What I thought was strange was that this event occurred in 1968 and spoke of an Israeli nuclear capacity, but Israel presumably didn't test a nuclear weapon until 1979.

War with Islam is hardly prophetic.

PEACE with Islam, now that would be something pretty amazing.

The future is not set is stone. God gives us a warning to change our behavior so that future never happens. We have the will to change to be good - holy even. Its all in our own hands.

This...

God will perform a miracle and free us from their oppression, willing us to repent and reform...

says 'willing', not 'wanting.'

I believe that prophecy ceased once the Second Temple was built. But I also believe no word from God can be considered valid if it contradicts the Torah. A prophet who claims to speak in the Name Of God and tells the people to abandon the Torah - that man is a false prophet who shall surely die.

I think you're saying this man's NDE isn't any sort of message from God, and I agree.

"voltage was increased to 1000 watts"

Watt are they talking about?

I would not be so quick to dismiss this out of hand.

It is clearly said in the bible that if the people of Israel will not repent and reform, G_d will force it upon them. G_d will send one cataclysm after another, one army after another until Israel realizes they must turn to G_d or be annihiliated. And turn to HaShem they will.

The prophet Isaiah clearly speaks of it:

"Zachu - Achishena. Lo Zachu - Be'ita". Literally tranlates to: "They've earned it, I shall bring it forth at once. They haven't earned it, it will come in time of G_d choosing".

If the people Israel repent and turn to G_d, the "Geula" and the Messiah will come at once. If the people of Israel have not turned to G_d, G_d will choose the appropriate time and place to bring the "Geula" (salvation) upon them.

The point I'm trying to make is: Salvation will be upon the Jews whether they want it or not. But G_d is giving Israel the choice. Turn to Him and you will recieve the "Geula" immediately. Or you can wait until G_d decides when is the right time for it.

This message for Israel is Deuteronomy 30:15 exactly. I believe it very well may be a prophetic word. No where did I see a call to abandon the Torah but rather a call back to God's Word.

"I believe that prophecy ceased once the Second Temple was built."

Brother please...that is an overwhelmingly incompetent belief. What, did God develop laryngitis?

I think they mean 1000 watt-seconds (joules).

the voltage was increased to 1000 watts

Statement makes no sense. Voltage is not measured in Watts, and the "charge" is usually referred to in both voltage (measured in Volts or kiloVolts) and the total energy delievered, in Joules.

This is completely out of my field, but isn't a "watt" defined as 1 joule per second.

"When I died, my soul went up," he states calmly from his home in Jerusalem. "There was a room I was standing in, and in front of me was an open door. Everything was white, but not white like the walls, a pure white, a white that we don't have here in this world. "The doors in front of me opened and I saw a spectacular sight: In front of me was a man sitting on a high chair, two men sat on either side of him, and on either side of me were six other men. They looked like regular people, but were wearing this pure white, with pure white beards and white hair. They had no wrinkles or blemishes on their faces and their eyes were glowing, as if there was fire or light emanating from them. They were all beautiful."

Gosh, when it happened to me, I lost all sense of time for the duration, didn't see any bright lights, and woke up as ornery as ever when it was over.

I feel slighted...

But then again it only took 2 shots of the defibrillator to bring me back. ; )
