Dear Friends,
Four years ago today, a plane crash took the lives of Paul and Sheila Wellstone, their daughter Marcia, and three campaign aides - Mary McEvoy, Tom Lapic, and Will McLaughlin. On that horrible day, it seemed like the ground had fallen out from underneath all of us. It was, and still is, hard to imagine that they are gone.
Here at Wellstone Action, our work is focused on building progressive politics for the future. Yet as much as we look forward to that future, today is a day of remembrance. We miss our friends. We remember their commitment to the values we share, but more important we miss their presence in our lives - their sense of humor, their joy of life, and their friendship.

His politics were not mine. Not even close. He was not a particularly effective Senator - unless you liked your Senator to wave their arms around a lot and grandstand at labor union strikes.
But noentheless, it was a tragedy. I wanted Paul Wellstone knocked out of office - but not this way.
Surprisingly, this anniversary seems to have passed with little notice here in Minnesota. Even the Minneapolis StarTribune (aka The Red Star) carries no mention of the anniversary.
Comments or opinions - anyone?
Sorry folks. Bad typing skills on my part.
The header should have read (10/25/02).
Does anyone miss him?
Do it for Paul!! Do it for PAUL!!
He was woefully incorrect in his beliefs, but at least they were core beliefs. I thought he was a sincere, if misguided, politician.
Another victim of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy just like Michael J. Fox.
Hit the abuse button on yourself and ask the mod to fix it for you. They'll git 'er done.
Give me a cynic over a true believer as an opponent any day. Still, I did not wish for such misfortune to befall him.
Even at room temperature, he is still brainer than Pat Murray, Barbara Boxer, Mark Dayton and possibly even Debbie Stabenow.
I remember hearing about his funeral. The RATS tried to make it a Campaign Rally.
Those jerks only remember the dead if they are politically useful. Since the Wellstone Funeral was such a political disaster, they prefer to drop him down the memory hole.
Well, no one should have wanted him dead!
...but his crash SURE helped the GOP!!! Not his death, but the Dummicratic reaction TO that death was a Godsend to the GOP!
It was shocking how quickly the "Who Killed Wellstone" signs went up around here.
I liked what the Dims did to themselves at his memorial service. Thank's for that, Paul.
We're STILL enduring his 4 year(and counting) Memorial service. It's just getting louder and more obnoxious every year.
I fear we'll see violence in the streets when the Democrats lose this one too
I guess they were all partied/rallied out....they may still be too hoarse to "celebrate" the anniversary.
My how time flies when you are in the middle of switching parties. I had planned on voting for Wellstone, the plane crash is the only thing that kept me from doing so. This was just before finding out that the very same liberals that said we were responsible for 9/11 had infected the party and were pushing it more and more to anti-Americanism. I didn't really follow Wellstone carefully enough. I mostly liked him and Sheila because they stood up for battered women. But, knew then what I know now about how rabidly anti-American Democrats have become, I would not vote for him even if we agreed on 70% of the issues. I wouldn't not to punish him, but the party Democrats have to be collectively punished for letting the likes of Sheehan, DUmmiecrats, and Moveon et al determine their platform.
They might make Howard Dean's rants look tame---ha ha
What did they do, blame it on Bush?
