Is opposition weakening to same sex marriage?

IS OPPOSITION WEAKENING TO SAME SEX MARRIAGE? October 23rd 2006 Leading newspapers have recently suggested that public sentiment is shifting on same sex marriage, with close races in the eight states that will vote on limiting matrimony to one-man/one woman relationships - in contrast to lopsided support marriage protection initiatives in 2004. The mainstream press claims gay activists now offer more effective opposition to what they misleadingly label "gay marriage bans," but there are more significant reasons for the changed mood. First, a series of court cases in California, New York and Washington indicated that judges are not ready to force gay marriage onto an unwilling electorate-making marriage protection measures seem less urgent. Second, the public suffers a clear case of "gay fatigue" - tired of the Foley obsession, weary of inescapable conversations about all things homosexual. Most people would prefer that homosexuality regain its old position as "the love that dares not speak its name," and drop the present posture as "the love that won't shut up." Michael Medved

If gays proposed civil unions so that they could have the society benifits, there would be little opposition. They are going after an institution with origins in religon that rejects homosexual behavor. That's the problem.

The only reason the Virginia amendment is close is that the opponents have claimed falsely that it will take rights away from unmarried couples.

They aren't attacking the ban on gay marriage itself, many "opponents" say they would happily vote for the amendment except for this "problem".

The problem is nonexistant, of course, and the opponents really do want gay marriage.

About half of the democrats voted FOR the exact language of the amendment TWICE (that's how it works in Virginia, 2 votes on the SAME language with an intervening HOUSE election). Now a lot of them are opposing because the language is too "vague".

The Governor, Tim Kaine, promised last year (before the election) to support the amendment, now he is raising money and campaigning AGAINST the amendment.

I still think it will win, and the New Jersey court decision should help.

This is the problem with the gay lobby.

They are the ones making a big deal that they are gay. They are forcing their lifestyle on Americans and it has done more damage then good.

Here are a couple of suggestions for the gay lobby:

1. Get rid of the gay pride parade. There is no hetero parade and if there was you would probably complain that it was due to homophobia. That's your fear, not ours. The whacked out cross dressing freakshows in San Francisco that symbolize your movement does nothing to garner any support from ordinary Americans who could care less about your sexual preferences.

2. Live your life to its fullest. Being gay is your choice. Enjoy it. Just don't foist it upon me or my children. You didn't learn about it in school, why should my kids?

3. Doesn't matter to me if you and your "spouse" want the same benefits from it. Just remember, AIDS is a major problem in the gay community and it is a disease about choice. I shouldn't have to pay for your choice in the form of higher premiums. If I smoke, I pay a higher premium. Like a smoker, you are high risk and should pay for that.

Other than that, you will have to deal with your creator when you die. That's a moral call and I am not here to judge you. I will leave that up to your creator.

With the ruling in NJ I think you will see the amendment pass in VA by a sizable margin. The press never tells the truth where the homosexuals are concerned. We shouldn't allow any legal unions for homosexuals the whole idea that they are being discriminated against is crazy. They like everyone else have the option to marry someone of the opposite sex. I know there has been the propaganda squad who have been somewhat successful in convincing the less informed that somehow that isn't possible and to suggest such a thing is outrageous but it is not. They make a choice. People who are so driven that they have no control over who and what they have sex with are sexual predators.
It makes me sick and it should anyone who has spent anytime at all with the literature surrounding this issue. The media is like a legion of gay cheerleaders. Just imagine Sam Donaldson in a skimpy cheerleader costume. lol

Homosexuals have played the victim but the real victims are those young people who are drawn into a lifestyle that is fueled on insanity and ridiculous claims and a chronic need for sexual exhibition and celebration.(Insert choice of not all homos are bad people disclaimer.) It is a sad state that our teenagers are not warned that for young men homosexuality is one of the most risky behaviors they can participate in.

No, they may have a little LESS opposition, but every thinking human can clearly see that "civil unions" are just marriage under another name. Compelled recognition by all will still be the result.

Colorado's election will be a test for this distinction.

How much do you believe what newspapers say? Where is their proof. They are just pushing their agenda.

Look at HOW LITTEL REPORTING there is about the NJ decision.

Even on FNC just a passing mention.

The leftists behind the news cameral KNOW this will motivate conservatives. They do NOT want NJ's judicial fiat reported.

We need more R's in the senate to get the Federal Marriage Amendment to the States for passage.

No. It is not. The only time gay "marriage" looks even half way acceptable is when it is a few states away. That way emotional voters can say "Oh yeah, it's ok. It's not my business." Nevertheless, the moment this issues hits the previously disengaged voters state BANG. It becomes an issue. A very big issue. Virginia is no more likely to say yes to gay "marriage" than any other state. Question: Does any sober person actually believe it would fail in Oregon, but pass in Virginia? PULEEEEEEEEZE!

The amendment has never met a state that didn't like it. And the incidental benefit is that those who support these amendments are getting out to vote in droves, and vote conservatively.

Wedge issues? Bring them on!
