Controversial cleric Sheikh Taj al-Din al-Hilali has been taken to hospital after fainting at Lakemba Mosque.

The sheikh had been due to meet with the Lebanese Muslim Association (LMA) today before a final decision was made on his future.

NSW Police Inspector David Donohue said the sheikh was taken to hospital shortly after 1pm (AEST).

He did not know his condition but said officers accompanied him to hospital.

Lebanese Muslim Association Tom Zreika, outside the mosque, would not confirm the sheikh had fainted.

He said that "due to unforeseen circumstances, we were unable to continue our private meeting'' with the sheikh.

Good get - Hope it's nothing serious and he gets well soon (NOT)

I DO hope he can repent before he dies, though.

Fainting? That's all? I was hoping he tripped on his islamic man-dress and took a header off a minaret or else got repeatedly stung in the testicles by a swarm of Africanized honey bees. Oh, well...
