Flu shots available at select voting sites Clinics target Hispanics and blacks who are 50 and older
Residents who catch the political bug this week may be able to avoid another kind.
The city and Amerigroup Foundation will offer flu vaccinations to people 50 and older through Friday at four early voting sites around Houston.
The "Vote and Vaccination" clinics are in Hispanic and black neighborhoods because studies show these ethnic groups are less likely to get flu shots, said Porfirio Villarreal, a spokesman for the city's health department.
"This has nothing to do with politics," he said. "It's an initiative to reach people who are at high risk and would not go to a doctor and clinic, but do take advantage of voting."
People who visit the facilities for shots don't have to vote, but Villarreal said they must bring proof that they are 50 or older.
Villarreal said Harris County elections officials approved the clinics, and that similar efforts are under way in more than 20 other cities and counties.
The Amerigroup Foundation, according to its Web site, is the philanthropic arm of the Amerigroup Corp., a managed health-care company with a focus on providing services to low-income communities.

These people have so many "bugs" up their arse that no amount of prevention could cure them .
Wonders if there are any verichip implants hidden in those flu shots. Who would know the difference?
Gee: This may not be political, but it sure sounds to me like it discriminates against whites.

Hate to tell them, but if a person is not going to get his flu shot, he/she probably won't go vote either. No, that isn't a racist remark...true of people of all races and ethnic backgrounds. Some people just won't get off their backsides to do anything. These would be the same ones who will complain about government and/or get a severe case of the flu.
Is this buying votes? The shots do have value.
As I recall, Clintoon would pick up voters in busses loaded with fried chicken....for delivery to poll locations.....
Both, definitely.
Get your flu shots.....Early and OFTEN!!!!
I haven't had a flu shot in over 20 yrs. Still I breathe and still vote to boot.
And yet I can't get one for my 6 month old, who is in a risk category.
It is Rove's October Surprise.....the shots are really medicine which will render them incapable of voting.......
You have to prove you are over 50 to get a flu shot, but no proof needed about your identity to vote...
In Missouri no one is allowed in the polling place except judges, voters and challengers.
Well if Clinton did that you can bet someone else paid for the Fried Chicken---and the gas in the bus.
.....that seems to depend on whom is checking credentials and the area of town.....
OK for buying votes.
Not OK for protecting America.
