Syracuse University professor Arthur C. Brooks is about to become the darling of the religious right wing in America and its making him nervous.
The child of academics, raised in a liberal household and educated in the liberal arts, Brooks has written a book that concludes religious conservatives donate far more money than secular liberals to all sorts of charitable activities, irrespective of income.
In the book, to be released next month, he cites extensive data analysis to demonstrate that values advocated by conservatives from church attendance to two-parent families to the Protestant work ethic and a distaste for government-funded social services make conservatives more generous than liberals.

The thing is, liberals are generous with OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY.
With others money?

As it should be. I believe in doing my own charitable work, not through taxation that supports ideals and principles (or utter lack thereof) that go against my own. I'm sick of paying Shawneeaiqua (better not rag on that spelling!) to squeeze out pups with as many fathers as possible. I'd much rather it go to the widowed wife of a serviceman who was a member of my church.
I give away my money more than liberals. Liberals give away my money more than their own.
With others money?

What else do they do besides spend OUR money? Both parties are very generous (to others) with our money. No matter if it is the welfare and dependency class that the socialists need to politically survive, or our fighting all the worlds' battles and funding illegal aliens, and tons of pork, they are all drunk on our tax dollars and STILL SPENDING OUT OF CONTROL.
I love seeing this. I have known it for years.
Depends on whose money we're talking about.........
Perhaps this academic, despite all the propaganda with which he as been surrounded his whole life, is about to have a "come to Jesus" moment.
And no man (or woman) is as devout a conservative as a lapsed and disillusioned liberal, who has seen the salvation.
Yup. Liberals believe in government benefits so why give to charity. It was even more prevelant in Canada. Most people I knew did not give to charity because the government had programs that were paid for by heavy taxation. SO why bother to give twice?
Conservative are more generous with their own money but liberals are more generous with other people money.
We would give even more if liberals didn't want our taxes to support liberal programs.
When it comes to helping the needy, he writes: "For too long, liberals have been claiming they are the most virtuous members of American society. Although they usually give less to charity, they have nevertheless lambasted conservatives for their callousness in the face of social injustice."

I here crickets chirping at CNN, MSNBC...

This should be in the sidebar. Every Freeper will want to read (and repeat) this.
I ditto the above.
Thank you!
Exactly.
I saw a survey done after the 2000 elections that showed that the top fifteen states with the highest percentage of earned income donated to charitable causes went Republican, while the bottom fifteen went Democratic.
Just like the former singer Barbra Streisand spouting off about conservation of resources, but when someone asked her about the use of energy to care for her estate she went ballistic about how she wasn't referring to herself.
Liberals have become the personification of the Baby Boomer generation's entitlement mantle: "I can say and do whatever I want, and I can tell you what you can say and do."
