Michael Savage: A Different Sort of Political and Social Commentator

Years ago in the late 1980s a man named Rush Limbaugh began broadcasting a talk radio show which soon became syndicated. Today he is the single most listened to radio personality in the nation. He is both revered and despised, but he has become a very wealthy man by tapping into a deep-seated need in the American public for a conservative viewpoint on government and world events. None of this happened by accident and soon Limbaugh was followed by other talk show hosts. There are literally hundreds today. Shawn Hannity, Michael Reagan, Bill O’Reilly, and many more have really hit the big time and all have huge audiences. They influence the way people think about and view world and national events. Only one thing is lacking. Most somewhat, if not entirely, support the Republican platform and decry the far left socialist agenda of much of today’s Democratic Party. Well, in the light of events since 911 and the previous Clinton years, I, for one am getting rather bored with all the ranting and party politics and partisan bickering.

There is one radio personality who is definitely his own man and does not mince words at all. That person is Michael Savage. Many find this man intolerable because of his anger and his deep passion for this country. I will give you a little history of this unusual individual and I think you will see immediately that this person is indeed a rare bird on the talk show circuit. His background is in science. He has masters degrees in medical botony and medical anthropology. Then he went on to earn his Ph.D In Epidemiology and Nutritional Ethnomedicine from the ultra liberal University, the University of California at Berkeley. While he is definitely a traditonalist and a conservative on spending and the Constitution, he champions animal rights and the environment. He has also spent decades searching in and saving tropical rainforests. Much of his rant every night seems pretty ad-lib, with just news headlines as starters for his “conversation.”

One listener online told Michael, you’re the clearest, purest voice in America today. You are a church bell ringing (paraphrase). If I had one phone call to make from prison, Michael, it would be to you.

His listeners are not just devotees. They regard him as a voice crying in the wilderness with them and voicing their despair at the ruin that he believes is being wrought on this nation by internationalists, corporate greed, and political corruption embedded in both parties. He even has some very liberal supporters who have also become disgusted with the politics of their party. What is refreshing about Michael is that he does not mince words.

If you do a google search on Michael Savage you will come up with his website: http://www.homestead.com/prosites-prs/. However, it’s also interesting that salon.com and mediamatters.org have highly placed sites on google as well, revealing the other sides of this enigmatic character. http://mediamatters.org/about_us/ and http://www.salon.com/src/pass/gateway/gateway550x480.html?http://salon.com/ are the sites for these commentaries. You might also know that these two sites are very frankly liberal in their bent. There is even one site which is dedicated entirely to bashing this talk show host: www.michaelsavagesucks.com/. So what are we to think? I say it’s best just to listen to his radio show and decide for yourself. I believe the following site will give you a place to start: http://www.talkradionetwork.com/. You can see when and even if his show is airing in your city. While Rush cleverly goes on about the idiotic Democrats, Michael rails against both parties. He is especially disgruntled with the Republicans because he says they have done the unpardonable by lying to the people who voted them into office and selling their values out to International and big national Corporations. Just recently he succinctly described our government “leaders,” including both Bush and Clinton and their minions as “managers,” not leaders. Everything is becoming about “ME,” he rails, no longer about the great “US,” that propelled this country into the greatest military and economic might in the world over the past two centuries.

The sources of corruption in our country? The Media, the “leaders” of both political parties, and the lazy, indolent and uneducated American public which is led along by the other two entities like lambs to the slaughter. Both parties have failed us, he declares loudly, and with great sadness, declaring that he has lost the will to even vote. Why? He asks. None of the “empty suits” in the Beltway give a rat’s ass about the American people anymore - not the Republicans and especially not the Democrats, who he emphatically labels as socialist and moral relativists. Naturally, the UN is a prime target for some of his diatribes.

People call in every night and want to ask him, “What do we do to turn things around, Michael?” And to this he most often replies, “I don’t know. What do I know? I’m just one solitary person talking on the radio.” He tells them, call your Senator or Congressman? Why? They don’t give a hoot what you think unless you can put big money into their pocket or re-elect them or get them a good deal on some land that’s gonna triple in value in three or four years. We’ve all of us, the hard working American people, been sold down the drain, and the pundits and politicians and “educator elitists” and UN deadwood is laughing all the way to the bank. Just look how Kofi Anin and his son made out with the “humanitarian” Oil for Food travesty begun through the UN under the Clintons.

Some of his concerns which have really caught on with his listening faithful are: the failure to secure our borders, the gross failure of an educational system held hostage by the teachers’ unions and their sycophantic political hacks in the Beltway, the total incompetence of our national bureaucracies to get anything done in a reasonable time for a reasonable cost, the gross bias of our press and the refusal of politicians to provide strong national defense and support our military by actions, not just words. As a scientifically trained man he deplores the fake science used by the radical environmentalists to hamstring our country’s efforts to become energy-independent and wean ourselves from foreign oil in the hands of third world dictators and thugs in OPEC. Some of his past statements have proven prophetic: the breakdown of our borders and our national identity through the multicultural hogwash he so despises; the abandonment of the Constitution and its systematic erosion through actions of the ACLU and the courts; the abysmal decline of most of our educational system; the chaos in Iraq which he warned about long before we invaded that country.

The reasons are mainly twofold as he sees it: we most of our representatives have very little knowledge of history long-term and neither party has any real leader with a vision which can captivate and enrapture the American people now. We are like the Jews wandering in the promised land, asking, when, Oh, when, My Lord, will this tribulation pass from us? Michael responds to this plaintive call as if it’s from his friends who listen regularly. His answers are disturbing, but honest. ? We will free ourselves from a corruption that has systematically invaded out country for really the past 80 years, but really was set afire by the Carter, then the Clinton Administration only if we get out of the UN permanently. We need to stop paying them a thing. We are the reason they exist, their main monetary support. Cut it off entirely and begin a real alignment of non-rogue nations. The UN has become a cesspool of corruption and degradation and to pay for it year after year is an abomination.

? Next, according to Michael and his supporters, we have to stop looking at party politics as an “either-or” proposition. We are not wedded to a two-party system. The politicians themselves have taught us that. Many good people run on alternative tickets and we have a choice. We need to look to the tickets every election cycle and get in contact with grass roots people who can finally become our Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. They are there. It just takes commitment and hard work. It takes money—yes—but most of all it takes the effort of people just willing to make calls, send emails, talk to people.

? Michael says that we have to launch a counter attack on the ACLU and its UN minions by donating to organizations committed to blasting them back with big buck lawyers and advertising. This will take money. There are already organizations dedicated to funding efforts. They are out there. The people just have to care enough to give them their support. The Clinton Administration taught liberals the greatest lessons of political conflict—hire lawyers and more lawyers. Pay them more and more money. Get it from any source possible. People committed to bringing this country back to the miasma are going to have to learn to street fight like these pros. ? Don’t vote for anyone who does not support the dismantling of the NEA. It is destroying our educational system and anyone who denies this or prevaricates about it is simply lying. Too many minds have been lost to this monstrosity of a so-called “educational system” to refute this. Statistics ignored and shoved aside by the mainstream media have facilitated in this for too many decades. Again, this will take money and we have to know our money is going to people of integrity.

Well, I have told why I think Michel Savage is not only worth listening to but is almost an essential counter to the typical talk radio touting of Republicans. Lots of people are getting tired and angry at all the elitist mentality of the beltway, we sense that we are being given the shaft by both parties, and we’re adrift with no one but pundits and the main media outlets to tell us the “news.” I would advise anyone to listen to Michael Savage, if your are one of these people. He certainly seems to speak for the “common working man” and doesn’t give a hoot about the parties. He won’t make you feel better. He will probably just make you feel sane and give you some company along the way.

Michael Savage: A Different Sort of Political and Social Commentator

I agree--having a showtune-loving, little dog-infatuated bigmouthed, hate-filled gasbag bitching like the most flaming queer about the Republican President and backing Jerry Brown while claiming to be some kind of conservative icon IS different, all right.

An amazing comment coming from the most self-infatuated, egotistical, scatterbrained, narcissistic ass on radio.

I listen daily. I don't always agree, but today Michael came to his senses over the JF Kerry assault on our troops and said that the dems could not be trusted to run our government, not in time of war.

Spot On!

Savage has no original ideas and his insight is 20/20. He's been bashing Pres. Bush relentlessly. But he will state
liberals are worse. I stopped listening

I think he gets/borrows most of his material from other
talk shows. Lazy egotist with a PhD in junk science which he
reminds us of many times per day.

Yours is the perfect summation of this preening phony's "attributes". But his worst sin: He's BORING. ALL screeching nothingness, repeated ad nauseum. My mom gets a laugh out of him, for some reason, and when I phone or visit her she sometimes used to say "Oh, that Michael Savage is outrageous."

I think his perfect audience is closeted RINOs who like all that screaming and attacking callers. I've turned to his show when I've been driving now and then but can never make it to the next commercial break. He is the embodiment of the line "sound and fury, signifying nothing," an empty, shrill fraud.

Tell us how you really feel.

With you saying you are a Pub, Atheist and Pro-Life, sounds like you've got issues too.

Why can't we let Michael Savage be Michael Savage, Rush Limbaugh stay Rush Limbaugh, Michael Medved be Michael Medved, instead of attacking them and calling them derogatory names? Why don't we save our invective for the enemy and quit beating up each other?

I appreciate Michael Medved's slow, courteous, thoroughly analytical approach to problems. I like Rush Limbaugh for his very inspired patriotism. But do you Really want Michael Savage to be like them?

Savage seems to irritate some of you right in some sore spot, but some of us like his independence. The fact that he's never invited to the White House might be a good thing. He may be an essential point in a triangulation sighting. We need to listen to all the analytical voices we can because it's vital that we perceive what is really going on. Each input adds dimension to our flat, two dimensional view.

So besides anti-Armenian bigotry (in explaining his support of Brown, he lampooned his Republican opponent's name), Savage is an environmentalist?

It fits with my analysis of him as a Jewish blood-and-soil conservative: Pat Buchannan with a kippa and a New York accent.

"I stopped reading right there... I make mistakes but thats just ridiculous..."

It's a typo, but give us all a break. Hannity is nowhere near the realm of first name status only ... maybe in RNC circles? He's the only national host that literally hits party talking points over and over and over ... laugable when the pot calls the kettle black ... His cheerleading program should begin with a "Shsh Boom Bam" ...
