WHY IS JACK SCARED TO DEBATE? REASON NUMBER 4: HE DOESN'T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW HE VOTED AGAINST GIVING U.S. INTELLIGENCE AND LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES THE POWER TO PROPERLY INTERROGATE AND BRING TO TRIAL TERRORISTS WHO PLOT AGAINST THE UNITED STATES

Thursday, November 2, 2006

(MONONGAHELA, November 2) -- Washington County Commissioner and Pennsylvania 12th district Republican Congressional nominee Diana Irey -- responding to Jack Murtha's refusal to meet with her to debate the issues, despite newspaper editorials urging him to debate, a League of Women Voters offer to host and sponsor a debate, and local television stations' offer to air the debate - today released this statement:

"Two weeks and two days ago, we began our 21-part series, 'Why doesn't Jack want to debate?' wherein I suggest 21 reasons Jack Murtha might be refusing to debate me in public. So far, we've listed 17 reasons Mr. Murtha wouldn't want to debate.

"Today I offer reason number 4 Jack Murtha is scared to debate me: because HE DOESN'T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW HE VOTED AGAINST GIVING U.S. INTELLIGENCE AND LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES THE POWER TO PROPERLY INTERROGATE AND BRING TO TRIAL TERRORISTS WHO PLOT AGAINST THE UNITED STATES.

"Over the summer, the Supreme Court issued a ruling that called into question the rights of suspected terrorists held in U.S. custody -- including among them men like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and Ramzi Binalshibh, two of the men believed responsible for planning and carrying out the 9/11 attacks. So the Congress, at the President's request, moved legislation that would lay out in detail what U.S. intelligence and law enforcement authorities could do and what they could not do.

"On September 29, the House of Representatives took up the Military Commissions Act of 2006.

"This legislation focused on two keys in the war on Islamo-fascist terrorists: first, it codified the current CIA interrogation program, and thereby allows us to gather critical intelligence that we can use to prevent new attacks against the American homeland and American interests around the world; and second, it allowed for the creation of military tribunals through which we can bring to justice those captured terrorists whom we believe played significant roles in attacks against Americans.

"That the CIA interrogation program needed to continue is beyond doubt: this program has allowed U.S. intelligence agents to gather vital information from, among others, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and Ramzi Binalshibh. Intelligence gleaned from this program has allowed us to prevent new terrorist attacks in America and abroad -- we rolled up a 17-member southeastern Asian terrorist cell being trained for attacks inside the U.S.; we uncovered key al Qaeda operatives working on biological weapons; we identified and captured terrorists who were casing targets inside the U.S., including key financial center buildings in the Northeast. And intelligence gathered from this program helped us prevent a planned strike on U.S. armed forces in Djibouti, a planned strike on the U.S. consulate in Karachi, and a planned hijacking plot that would have used airplanes again, against Heathrow Airport and Canary Wharf in London.

"Just as important as allowing a program to continue that will help us prevent future attacks, this legislation also allows us to bring to justice those who have engaged in prior attacks against us. The military tribunals created by this legislation will be used to try people like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and Ramzi Binalshibh; an operative believed to have played a role in the twin attacks on U.S. Embassies in Tanzania and Kenya in August 1998; and some of those believed responsible for the attack on the U.S.S. Cole in October 2000.

"But Jack Murtha, for some odd reason, voted 'NO' on this critical legislation.

"Was it so he could maintain his new-found status as the darling of the Hollywood/San Francisco left? Was it so he could build up chits from the ultraliberal, pro-choice, pro-gun control crowd of Democratic challengers he's now helping - and from whom he expects support in his bid to advance his own career? Was it so he could provide cover for other Democrats who have refused to support giving our intelligence and law enforcement authorities the tools they need to protect us?

"Whatever the reason, Jack Murtha voted the wrong way. And now he doesn't want anyone to know it, and to hold him accountable for it.

"It's time to send in a mom to clean up the mess. Next Tuesday, voters in the 12th Congressional District will have the opportunity to do just that."

For those keeping score, here's the running scorecard:

21 REASONS JACK IS SCARED TO DEBATE: HE DOESN'T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW:

21. He has voted himself 12 straight pay raises.
20. He has voted to raise his own pay from $42,500/yr to $165,500/yr.
19. He tried to take a $50,000 cash bribe from an undercover agent for the FBI.
18. His "investment defense" was nothing more than a ruse to hide his $50,000 cash bribe from an undercover agent for the FBI.
17. He wrongfully accused U.S. Marines of cold-blooded murder.
16. He voted against allowing military personnel to assist the Department of Homeland Security with border security in times of a threat to national security.
15. He voted against legislation to fulfill recommendations of the 9/11 Commission to prohibit illegal aliens from obtaining driver's licenses or other official ID cards; to ensure terrorists do not enter or remain in the U.S. through loopholes in asylum or deportation laws; and to strengthen border security by completing the San Diego border fence.
14. He voted against stiffer sentences for illegal aliens convicted of violent crimes or drug trafficking.
13. He voted against increasing funds to help state and local governments arrest and detain illegal aliens.
12. He voted against the Border Control, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005.
11. He voted against the Secure Fence Act of 2006.
10. He voted against protecting traditional marriage.
9. He voted to allow liberal judges to overturn a law protecting traditional marriage.
8. Contrary to what he says now about his role in Abscam, he didn't just say 'no' to a $50,000 cash bribe.
7. He once hosted a welcome back party for a former congressional staffer who'd just been convicted of taking an illegal bribe.
6. He pushed for a new law to require taxpayers to pay the legal bills of Members of Congress who had been convicted of taking bribes.
5. He voted against giving U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies the power to wiretap suspected terrorists when they call associated in the United States.
4. He voted against giving U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies the power to properly interrogate and bring to trial terrorists who plot against the United States.

No polls for over a month and that was before the FBI ABSCAM tapes were released.

Volunteers and people living in the district say support is very good.

Diana will win.

How is Diana doing in the polls?

Even cockeyed optimist Hugh Hewitt has given up on her. That's how.

Hewitt didn't give up on her. He's ignored the race from the beginning.

Hugh is making the same mistake as left-wing yakkers and assuming that Murtha is a shoo-in. No one in the MSM is recognizing the intensity of disgust that Murtha has generated.

Wish you were on her side. She deserves the support of Freepers.

Jean Schmidt (OH) and Diana Irey (PA) are in "sister" races. Both are patriots who deserve (and are getting) support from Freepers.

Just because he hasn't been banned or suspended doesn't mean much. Some people get out and do things. Some make snarky comments online. You decide what matters.

I hope you're right. I suspect you're wrong.

Wish you were on her side. She deserves the support of Freepers.

Careful with the leaps of logic there, FRiend.

LOL! Had a history teacher who called me that! We did NOT like each other. He did teach me one thing that I've never forgotten:

Fight to the death.

(LOL! I got an A, 'cause he pissed me off so bad and I trumped him on my final project.)

Actually...what he taught me wasssssss:

Hope for the best. Looks like someone around here could use a bit of that optimism ; )
