CNN: "Electronic Voting Machines Shown to be Tamper Prone"
CNN | 11/2/06

Posted on 11/02/2006 12:09:47 PM PST by pabianice

Per CNN Headline News, 3:08pm ET ... the Leftist scare campaign is on. If they lose, it's because voting machines have been fixed by the Republicans. If they win, it's a victory over vote-stealing Republicans. A win-win for them.

Hmmm...This didn't come up at the Diebold board meeting that Karl Rove and I attended. I wonder if there's any truth to it?

and of course, the inference is that the GOP will win because of tampering. But, but, i thought the GOP base was just a bunch of redneck, hayseed, Bible thumpers in fly over country. How could such bumbling idiots figure out how to tamper w/a machine?

How tamper prone is tamper prone?

According to freedomtotinker.com, the poll workers aggregating data from the Diebold machine's memory cards stuck the cards into the poll workers' personal laptops. Am I the only person here who sees something wrong with that?

When they are opened in the morning they print a readout of the totals on the machine; all zeros. If a number other than zero appears, we are to call the board of elections.

To the machines keep an unalterable count of how many times they've been reset?

As a mere district official, I do not know the answer to that question. And assuming can get me into trouble!

Why no such concern for the much more open Automatic Teller Machines?

At least ATM's give you a paper receipt. Why can't these voting machines print out your ballot which you can drop in a ballot box, providing an audit trail should one be necessary?

"And what of the dead?"

You bring up a number of interesting points and until your post I never realized that I was guilty of discriminating against the dead.

The shame of it all....I'm a deadist...or is that a necroist?

I feel a new tag line coming on...

Well, depending on the age of your dictionary, the definition of that other -ism may be 'the belief that race provides an inherent hierarchy' then death certainly is inherently hierarchical. The living are hier[sic] than the dead.

It isn't new. You should have heard the gushing over Hillary on the "View" when she was running for senate. I got stuck in a doctor's office while that mess was on.

That show should be called "Today in Feminism."

There have been many studies that have proven that these machines are easy to be tampered with. This goes both ways (Democrats and Republicans) it is not just one party or the other having something to whine about.

Also, It is not about there being more votes than authorities, it is about the votes cast being counted wrong.

We should ALWAYS have a paper trail!!

Frankly, I don't like voting machines and never will. There is nothing wrong with paper ballots.

Voting machines can be tampered with by Democrats.

We should all go Oregon. Mail in ballots. No lines at the polls. They have given up trying to convince you by this point because the vote is already in the mail. Simple, fast, easy.

There are too many broken machines, long waits in lines, bad weather days, 90 year old confused poll workers. Enough of that. Let's vote by mail when we are all good and ready to vote. Uniform ballot. Uniform machine. Scantron. No fuss, no muss.

A venezuelan company connected to Chavez just bought one of the e-machine firms. It does go both ways. A person could throw a tight election. Either way. If there is a better way to do it, why not do it that way?

1. All opinion pieces by the media the night before the election are suspect.

2. There are more safeguards than most people think.

But I would still prefer there was a printout too so a paper audit could be conducted -there is no reason to think that the hackers with the ability to screw with the election are gonna be conservative.
