CNN: "Electronic Voting Machines Shown to be Tamper Prone"
CNN | 11/2/06

Posted on 11/02/2006 12:09:47 PM PST by pabianice

Per CNN Headline News, 3:08pm ET ... the Leftist scare campaign is on. If they lose, it's because voting machines have been fixed by the Republicans. If they win, it's a victory over vote-stealing Republicans. A win-win for them.

You are correct, of course.

But I don't like the new computer machines.

I REALLY liked the scan-tron sheets --- record of paper, convenience of computer.

Not in Maryland - the Republican Governor has fought tooth and nail against the machines and advised people to vote by absentee ballot. There will certainly be manipulations, but NO WAY this can be laid on REPUBS in MD.

Let me guess... Bev Harris is showing her face on TV again?

She's got quite a track record for being wrong (even the DUmmies don't like her after being fleeced by her in 2004), and was one of the first to try to push the Bush Texas Air National Guard AWOL story back in November 2000. A Democrat political hack.

We in New Mexico don't have to worry about those evil tamper prone electronic voting machines.

We used paper ballots and then the dim state officials count them for us - having decided not to use an independent auditing firm after all. </s

Many third world countries have more transparent voting processes than this state.

How would they know if they are tamper prone unless they have already tampered with them..

"If they (the democrats) lose, it's because voting machines have been fixed by the Republicans."

If you didn't see this one coming, you're as dumb as John Kerry thinks you are.

Sounds like the dims are spending more time prepping their excuses for when they lose than they are actually trying to win.

How did you guess? Olbermann, who disavowed her a while back, had her back on last night.

Its beginning, the Dems already have their teams of lawyers lined up ready to go. The main reason for the polls that show an overwhelming probability of a Dem take over of one or both houses is to set a public expectation of their victory. When it again doesnt manifest itself at the polls they will pursue victory in the courts.

"I REALLY liked the scan-tron sheets --- record of paper, convenience of computer."

That's what we use here in my part of Minnesota, and used where I used to live in CA. The fact that there is a paper record allows recounts.

Shown to be tamper prone? By whom?

Our district used the new touch screen machines in the primary this year for the first time. When they are opened in the morning they print a readout of the totals on the machine; all zeros. If a number other than zero appears, we are to call the board of elections. At the closing of the polls they print out the total number of votes cast and a total for each candidate and public question. The start and finish printouts are signed by the four district board workers. These are placed in a sealed bag and returned to the municipal clerk's office.

As voters signed in, a voting authority was issued to each. The number of authorities issued is a cross check against the machine totals; if there are more votes cast than authorities issued, it will be obvious.

The RAT concern is that they have not found a way to jigger the machines.

The ones complaining the most about this are the democrats and with good reason. They have an army of lawyers waiting to file suits and demand endless recounts. The reason they want paper ballots is so they can during recounts get enough of their people in there to tamper with the ballots.Be kinda hard to do with a computer.

Bev Harris has been pushing the Democrat fringe issue line for at least the past decade, if not before. And after leaving her Bush-AWOL pushing PR firm, talion.com, she wrote a "book" and moved on to so-called black-box voting. Now, she's getting an HBO documentary, and pushing the same scare tactic agenda again.

By the way, in New York, we still use 50-year-old level pull machines that provide absolutely NO paper trail (and have never done so since they were purchased). Yet I never see Bev Harris and her friends complaining about the reliability of these machines.

Why no such concern for the much more open Automatic Teller Machines?
