Irey gets boost from Internet fundraising

— Republican Diana Irey's congressional campaigning is picking up speed, attempting to overtake a veteran incumbent and overcome a huge voter-registration disadvantage.
The Washington County commissioner, taking on Democratic U.S. Rep. John Murtha, this week began running her first TV and radio ads.
And her campaign claims to have raised $100,000 since Oct. 1, in part due to Internet-based fundraising and exposure from conservative blogs...
During a stop in downtown Johnstown on Thursday, Irey again criticized Murtha for saying Marines intentionally killed innocent civilians in an incident last year in Haditha, Iraq.
Murtha has not retracted his statements, and his campaign spokesman, Ed Mitchell, said he would not comment on the matter.
Murtha has not aired any television or radio ads, and Mitchell said the congressman plans no special campaign events this weekend.
"The congressman's record is established," Mitchell said....
Also Thursday, Irey joined Republican gubernatorial candidate Lynn Swann and Republican U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum at a GOP event in Richland Township.

Murtha is NOT pumping money into this race so Diana has no negative ads to counter. Every dollar will go to getting her message out there. And her message is our message. Thanks to all who've helped Diana Irey speak for us!

I can't believe the arrogance of this EX-Marine. He could likely overwhelm Commissioner Irey with negative ads, yet he's choosing to continue campaigning all over the country for others during this critical time, thinking he's safe. And I thank him. :-)

Instead of wringing your hands this weekend, how about giving a couple of hours (or more if you can) to help the Irey and/or Santorum campaigns turn out the vote? Or at least spread the word to friends/neighbors in PA-12 to vote Irey on Tuesday. Don't be sitting there next Wednesday wishing you'd have done something.

GOOD! I was making fund-raising calls Wednesday. One gentleman I spoke to, gave the absolute best diatribe I have ever heard against Murtha (hiss>. He also laid out many reasons why it is time to REDEPLOY Murtha (hiss). He has contributed to Diana in the past and promised to send more now.
I thanked him for his support and his most excellent diatribe and reasoning. His reaction?
"That's coming from a REGISTERED DEMOCRAT!"
I expressed my astonishment so he continued.
"I have been a registered democrat all my life and I am 70 years old. I have worked on 5 campaigns, all for democrats.
DIANA IREY has my vote on Tuesday!!!

It is difficult to imagine but at this stage nothing surprises me about him. The thing that surprises me is how he has fooled so many people for so long.
Diana and the people of the 12th will put an end to his corrupt career this coming Tuesday.
He's on until 9 a.m. Pacific Time. Not sure when she'll be on but Kirby Wilbur just announced that coming up will be Chris Wallace, Mary Matlin, and Diana Irey (he said she's spunky and he really likes her).

Alas, though I have a peaceful heart about Diana and Rick, I can't say I'm as optimistic about Lynn's chances. If only Swann had Team Irey running his campaign.

She's talking about her familie's reaction to mutha's (hiss) comments last year and the personal impact it had on them.
She is now talking about meeting our wounded warriors and how they affected her and her resolve to do this FOR THEM!

Please excuse any typos - just trying to get down as much as I could:
Kirby: thinks her campaign will be a little different than other races.
D - Have about 900 volunteers working on campaign, raised $800k, solely through grassroots, murtha really made it when he came out in May against Marines and not one has yet been charged.
Did Murthas have a habit of doing this or did he go off deepend?
D: He used to vote conservative but has been going more liberal and courting them because he is running for leader.
Will be very close race - things are going well, momentum.
Kirby - I've run for office and the grassroots effort D has very good sign.
D - Murtha's comments just before Christmas last year started her thinking about running (hadn't thought about it before). His comments upset her - our military is making much sacrifice. What he was doing against our soldiers - running was a sacrifice she could make for our troops. Talked w all her family. Heart is w military. Went to Walter Reed. Kirby said collected 9k Christmas Cards last year from listeners and he took to Walter Reed.
Kirby what drives him on election is war and someone needs to cover their 'sixers' while the troops are over there.
D- has gotten a lot of support and letters from soldiers in Iraq and families.
D - her 4th campaign (Commissioner) but this is something different. Has been encouraged by all the good people willing to get involved: time, finances, sweat.
K - Has been watching her, heard her w Sean, checked her web site, really wanted to have her on so audience understands that she is willing to take on Murtha and all the silly things he said.
Someone who is willing to take on this gargantuan challenge in Murtha. Donate to her campaign online - $5 or $500.
D - Soldiers w banner - hopefully let everyone back home know that they are watching what's going on. What better for soldiers to get rid of Murtha.
K - wish we could do more but 3,000 miles away. Go on line and help her out. Hope we have a chance to talk when you're congresswoman of 12th District.

Wow, he really did a nice job of selling her. Should be a nice little bump today in donations for the final TV/radio blitz. That, combined with a pretty big and very motivated volunteer base, may be enough to put Diana over the top!
