At work, I frequently have to batch print out hundreds of .pdf files of engineering blueprints. I can easily do this by going into Explorer, highlighting the .pdf's in the home directory, and right-clicking to Print. Problem is, the very fast machine grabs as many as it can, runs Adobe once for each drawing, and outputs them as it finishes each open drawing. This throws them out of order in the finished stack coming out of the network printer.
Is there some batch program to print 11" x 17" .pdf files that will run THIS ONE then the NEXT ONE and so on so that a huge list will print in the right order?

Make sure you're logged in before you attempt to do mass printing.

If you have adobe professional, you can bind them into a single document and print them. When you bind them you can arrange them in the order you need them.

Don't quote me on this but I think some proceses print jobs in alphbetical order. If you can't find software to do what you want, you might try renaming the files alphabetically the way you want them printed out.
Hope this helps.

Seems to be designed to do what you're looking for, and was originally written to print batches of documents from the engineering department for other departments on a batch basis.

I use a freeware program called PDFcreator - it let's you create multiple-page PDF's out of anything you want. It even has a printer driver that you can set as default printer.

Here is a FREEWARE tool that does what you want ...
http://www.print-conductor.com/
Features
-
PrintConductor can batch print 16 document types: PDF, DOC, WRI, WPS, RTF, TXT, XLS, PPT, PPS, POT, VSD, DWG, DXF, SNP, HTM, HTML.
-
PrintConductor supports any printer installed on your computer and provides you with instant access to the settings of the specified printer.
-
Add documents to the list using drag & drop, Open dialog box or auto-scan a specified folder and its subfolders for documents of needed types. Sort documents by name or type, preview before you print, and/or print any document(s) from the list.
-
A progress bar keeps you informed of the '%complete' status of the job. And, the job can be easily cancelled at any time in processing.

Something like
Winbatch is probably what you need... Some guys in my office use it to do some pretty involved (albeit repetitive) processing.
