You must forgive me, for there just is not a lot of room in my life for even good jokes--and there is absolutely no room for "botched jokes"--when the subject of the joke is my son who was killed in Iraq. I know exactly what came out of Sen. John Kerry's mouth, and in those words there is no interpretation required. His attempt to convince us--and, I believe, to convince himself that that there was really a botched joke buried deep within his insult is in fact a reaffirmation of his ever-present condescending nature. He actually believes that we are stupid enough to agree with him and start laughing simply because he said it was a joke. Mr. Kerry said exactly what he meant and meant exactly what he said. In those words Mr. Kerry did in fact wash completely away the facade of his support of our magnificent troops and revealed for all to see his true colors. All one had to do is look into the face of Mr. Kerry as the last word came out of his mouth, and it was painfully obvious that he knew that he had just disparaged the entire military. As the firestorm grew, the calls for an apology filled me with unease. It is not up to him to determine if an apology is in order. That decision most certainly rests with the millions of individuals he offended, and then they would decide if they were going to accept one or not. As Sen. Spot On...and this is PRECISELY why most military people are conservatives, detest liberals, and look down on their ideologies.
Liberals, for the most part, dislike, distrust and deamean the military. The liberal politicians view national defense and the military as something to be spun to elicit the maximum amount of votes at election time.
My experience is that conservatives universally respect military personnel, understand the concept of self-defense (and by extension, National Defense) and are grateful for the military and those who serve in it.
And interestingly...many military people can spot a fake of a phony person. Perhaps it is because you often have to depend on those around you in ways civilians do not have to, but...when an officer shows up who is a phony, the enlisted people see it right away.
They saw Kerry right away. And most of them see who President Bush is.

In my mind, if someone is pro-military and displays respect (cannot be faked...you can tell) then it is likely they are a conservative.

Liberals do not have the character nor moral fortitude to either be in the military or support it. They are selfish, condescending and hateful. My family and I are very close with a neighbor and her family. Her 20 yr. old son enlisted in the Marines after 2 years of college. He had plans (and the grades) to be a Trauma Dr. He told us his desire to serve his country was too overwhelming and he would wait to finish school. He felt his country needed him and this was something he had to do. Right now he is at Camp Lejune, he is his class leader and a wonderful, wonderful man. Most of us know somebody who is serving and we know they are truly selfless in what they do. I for one would love to slap Kerry and all of his minions upside the head. None of them are fit to wipe the mud off the bottom of these men and women's boots.
I agree completely with your remarks. This writer said what I think of John Kerry with much more eloquence than I could ever do. God bless this man, his family and the heros (and families) of every person serving in the military!

Your dad and my dad...they were indeed the greatest generation...I miss my dad very much, he was buried six years ago the day after Veterans Day in Arlington. I always think of him this time of year. November, clear, windy and gray. It just seemed to fit him, Navy man that he was.

Some good has come out of this: Kerry is done as a national politician and for that I am grateful. America got a second look into his soul and saw him more clearly this time around.
And this is why the democrats distanced themselves from Kerry.
Its wasn't enough for Jon to make fun of the soldiers, he had to put their families through hell as well. All I can say is without a doubtour soldiers are fighting for what is good, decent and right. They are fighting for our freedom and they have my prayers and thankfullness. The Lord bless America,our leaders and our soldiers! And please Lord, help us defeat our enemies.
Yes. We are all respectful of the memory of Kyle Griffin, who he was as a person (even if we did not know him personally) and the context his life has for the rest of us outside his family. We understand, and grieve for his family who must go on without him, never forgetting to think of him and the others with respect and gratitude each and every day. They gave so much, and we have to give so little.
