Exactly how do we know what the original intent was - not what was provided after the fact, but what the original intent was. Did somebody videotape a rehearsal, or are we supposed to rely on somebody on the Kerry payroll to tell us the truth about what the original intent was?
I think theres little that changed in the edit anyway. I still think the intended joke is as bad---its just a more tongue in cheek dis on the military---plausible deniability. But he would know all to well that thats how it would be interpreted.
Add that to the fact that he never apologized for the joke as he said it.
