Democrats playing catch-up to Republicans in courting religious voters have found a secret weapon: nuns.

In Ohio and Michigan, Democrats have recruited nearly two dozen nuns in each state to work phone banks. In Ohio, the nuns have made calls for the campaign for governor of Representative Ted Strickland and the Senate campaign of Representative Sherrod Brown.

a sign of desperation to employ the catholic church to become useful idiots....if they are representatives of the church...which is a non profit 501 c 3 and they are now part of the lib/dem campaign party...should they be non profit?????

" Nuns working for the party of unfettered abortions?"

That's not entirely surprising. There have been priests who have praised the leftists in Nicaragua.

I believe perhaps this is the answer. Feminism seems to take precedence over religion. Many nuns have a wish to be priests and it wont happen, However these nuns should think about the abortions that Democrats espouse and think of their souls before pushing their gender.

Last election, I had thought that by now the Democrats would be in the front rows of the churches on Sunday because they believed they had been outflanked by the Republicans on the religious issue. If they lose this time, they'll be standing on the street corners handing out religious tracts with "God loves Democrats" on the front of them.

In the San Francisco Bay Area are liberal nuns. They are very active in Amnesty International, passing out green cards to illegals, and vote Democrat. If you've spent any time at all with these 'nuns', the hairs on the back of your neck would raise. The dark side of these nuns is nothing I would ever qualify as "Christian" nor "Catholic".

That's what the NY Times wants everyone to believe. The rifts and splits in all MAJOR faiths have been going on for decades: The Orthodox, and then the "Liberal" wings.

I'll be impressed when I hear they're using Amish for their campaigns. The nuns don't have any aversion to using phones, but the Amish do, and when the Amish are making calls for them I'll take notice. Next thing you know it will be carrier pigeons!

If they want to be priests go be Episcopalians -- they just installed a woman as their presiding bishop.

I wish they would think about the condition of both their souls and the souls of the people they are counseling to vote for pro-abortion candidates. God is merciful, especially to actual ignorance of sin, however this is willfully looking the other way as while people are killed for convenience. Please keep these nuns, as well as those they counsel in pray, that the Lord my grant them repentance.

No thanks for the memory. ;>

When the "sisters of perpetual indulgence" first burst on the SF scene, that's when we began to see liberal Catholic nuns begin activizing in major ways for the socialists. The liberal nuns didn't care who saw them doing what they did anymore than the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence cared. Not long later, stories began popping out about Catholic Priest(s) molestations of children.

The world is a show of symbolic meaning vis a vis communication and signals to and between the fascists.

I remember how the left went nuts when George Bush said that Jesus was "influential" to him. But the leftists use religion all the time. Every leftist politician more or less says something like, "I know that Jesus, were he alive today, assuming he even existed, would be all for gay marriage, abortion under all circumstances, gun control, good relations with North Korea and Iran, raising the minimum wage to $40 an hour, sex between minors and adults as long as the relationship is 'loving', banning cars to save the environment..." Their wish list is always the same and they often use religious platitudes about "equality."

We have a nun in our community who opened up a thrift store enterprise to fund her longing to help unwed mothers (and a few others, I'm sure). I'd not met her, hubby had. One day going into our doctor's office, I noticed one other car in the parking lot with a pro-Kerry bumper sticker and a couple of others which led me to believe the owner supported abortion.

This nun was the owner of that car, and I was struck dumb to realize she supported Kerry and was pro-abortion.

They are out there. In talking to her, she confirmed. Amazing.

And yes, that is a picture of a "real" nun.

This will not help when the majority of Catholics will equate Nuns with a stinging ruler upon the hand! Other faiths will put no more credibility on a Nun's political request than a cashier at McDonalds. Nothing against Nun's, but politics is not where Jesus would want them. There are suffering and sick people that need help!

Nuns are often heavy duty union activists. They came to Southwest Virginia to aid striking mine workers. They drove their RV in the middle of the road slowing down and disrupting the coal hauling trucks. They shunned their habits in favor of the UMWA camouflage.

Being a Nun gives special untouchable political privilege.

I keep tellin' ya and tellin' ya; the Dem base in OH is badly, badly apathetic. There is zero interest in these goof-ball candidates, and you will see, mark my words, a Dem UNDERVOTE of the 2002 levels, probably in the range of 1-2%.

When you combine that with the HIGHER GOP off-year percentage, say 2-3%, you're looking at some stunning election night results.

People should certainly take the time to write to their bishops and complain about these activities. Bishops don't necessarily have the power to tell religious orders what they can do; but they can condemn activities like this, and they can request the orders to leave their dioceses. It's doubtful that these nuns are doing anything helpful for the Church. More likely, they are doing their very best to undermine it and spread dissent.

Also, frankly, someone should report this to the IRS. They are clearly violating their limits as a tax-free organization by doing this. If conservative priests or nuns did this, they would lose their tax free status faster than you can say "jack robinson."

Time to hold both sides equally accountable.
