York is very prominent in Rhode Island. This will definitely hurt Whitehouse.

Chafee was probably too stupid to ask.

Isn't she the one who ran against Carcieri for Governor recently?

In months previous, Chafee's name has been mentioned around FR only to be condemned as the foremost example of the type of irredeemable RINO who we need to remove from office. But now all those former fire-breathing RINO smiter's would exult like like a Palestinian on 9/11 if Chafee were to defeat the Dem.

if it comes down to 51-49, what are the chances of Chafee switching parties?

He won't. It would disgrace the memory of his deceased father. His family won't hear of it. It won't happen.

Wasn't Chafee's opposition in the primary a fairly conservative mayor? Bush and the RNC backed Chafee - God knows why.

Similar to Specter in PA in 2004 - there was a real conservative (Toomey?), but the Republican machine backed Specter the Defector.

The big reason we are in trouble this election is that we are losing our conservative will - people want leadership and we aren't giving it to them.

Not I.

I make no bones about it. I want Chafee to lose. Seeing a couple of polls conributing to discussion he still has life is, honestly, depressing.

I'll admit I've stopped calling for people to vote DeWine out so I suppose I have relented somewhat in that corner but only after the Dems pushed too far...but I have also said I won't shed a tear if he loses. And I'm not lifting a finger to help him. Just keeping my mouth shut on that one.

The one I will be depressed about is if Santorum is gone. Dewine, eh. And Chafee I'll literally gloat about if gone.

Think how I feel, I've got to vote for Snowe tomorrow. I believe she voted for Roberts and Alito. Not sure about Chaffee. But I believe he would not be part of a filibuster, he said last year that the President's judicial nominees deserved an up or down vote. With Stevens set to retire we need all the votes we can to stop a filibuster.
Right now I've got the GOP, including Chafee's seat, with 54 after tuesday. With a little luck it's 55. Which leaves 45 democrats, 6 to deal with to break a filibuster.

Not me.Chafee, to me, is Kerry Lite - someone who perpetually knifes his betters when their backs are turned - and then postures as principled, so you don't notice what a poltroon he is.

but the Republican machine backed Specter the Defector.

The reality is but the Republican machine backed Specter the WINNER (and very different than Santorum, the loser).

Compared to Bob Ney, Duke Cunningham and too many democrats to name, CHAFEE IS VERY PRINCIPLED.
