I wish I could do that, then I'd be 6 feet tall.
What is this world coming to?
This is one of those things that shows the shameless utter hypocrisy of the left. Although Darwinism is not synonymous with liberalism, liberals believe that it is sound science, and that it should be taught as fact in public schools without competition from other theories about the origin of the species.
On the other hand, they will say something that gender -- something that scientifically can only be defined in either/or terms -- should be up to the individual. It's so maddog stupid.
Failure to live in the real world and accept facts as they are, no matter how disappointing they are, is a workable definition of insanity.
This sort of insanity will now be backed by the coercive power of the state of New York.
>>Good grief.<<

>>Surgery versus nonsurgery can be arbitrary, said Dr. Thomas R. Frieden, the citys health commissioner.<<
The good doctor does have a point - surgery to mutilate your gentials doesn't really change your sex so if they really let people who have had the operation change their birth certificate then they might as well them do it without the surgery.... its changing the birth records in the first place that's the problem.
Disclaimer: I know there are some people born physically intersex and I have full sympathy for them but they are a tiny minority of those we are discussing.
One of us will do this! I can tomorrow.
When I was four, I wanted to grow up and be an elephant because I liked the Babar books.
So if I'm ever in NY (fat chance), I'll put down "elephant".
I saw this coming over a year ago. I wrote to members of Congress detailing how such a change would negate the proposed Marriage Protection Amendment, but they're hell bent on pursuing an amendment that would be worthless.
But it might be decided that the Constitution requires states to honor it. Maybe we need a Constitutional amendment that allows us to eject states from the union.
A more pertinent question: Would a woman who became a man or a man who became a woman have to wear an abaya?
Yes. All kinds of issues:
"The change would lead to many intriguing questions: For example, would a man who becomes a woman be able to marry another man? (Probably.) Would an adoption agency be able to uncover the original sex of a proposed parent? (Not without a court order.) Would a woman who becomes a man be able to fight in combat, or play in the National Football League? (These areas have yet to be explored.)"
You know, this DOES pose a major problem. What if you are a man and change the sex on your birth certificate. Does that entitle you to use the women's restrooms? Which public official can we hold responsible for the first rape that takes place because of this?
Does anybody else wonder what the guys who died on Omaha beach would have to say about this? Would they tell us, "Hey, I want my life back. Might as well have let the Germans have it?"
"Surgery versus nonsurgery can be arbitrary."
Unreal. Deconstructionism and cultural Marxism at work.
It's going to be fun watching the quotaholics when a couple of "women" with beards show up to claim protected female positions.
Looking on the bright side, it might solve the problems with Title IX.
The world is rocketing straight to Hell at light speed. This ridiculous, and disgusting story is the icing on the cake.
What next? Death Certificates to the undead? "I am a dead man trapped in the body of a living person!"
I remember a quote from somewhere: "Neurotics build castles in the sand and psychotics live in them." Today's American liberalism has progressed from neurotic to psychotic.
Two nights ago, I dreamt that Hillary was defeated. I wish that would come true, instead.
