Now that they can't continue to influence the U.S. elections or the first Hussein trial, the deal-making begins.

Saddam Hussein's former second in command, now a fugitive with a $10 million bounty on his head, has ordered Baath party bosses still in Iraq to cease attacks But the Newsweek cover for November 6, 2006 specifically stated that we were "losing" in Iraq.

If this is true, it's extremly good news! The Iraqi Government and USA should seize the momentum to pacify a large part of the insurgency. At the same time the Iraqi Sunnis have to root out , kill or arrest any Foreign Jihadi!
This could be an important step for reconciliation.

It would be even more impressive if they would tell them to turn on the terrorists in the country.

Maybe the Iraqi govt is negotiating with him to resume leadership in the Sunni triangle after the executions.
It would make sense. This is Iraq.

Interesting; can you imagine what the MSM will say when the bombs stop blowing away American Soldiers - they will not be happy.
Republicans retain both houses, attacks on troops stop (Happy Thanksgiving) and Sadaam hangs - (before Christmas)

In a major concession to insurgents and the Sunni community Monday, the government agreed to legislation that would reinstate Baathist officials to positions of responsibility. The Baathist officials had been purged from their jobs in the first days of the U.S. occupation.
This is probably a good idea. A lot of Baathists were functionaries and file clerks. To let them return to work is to get them off the boodly streets, and by bloody I mean bloody.

Saddam and his cronies are probably trying to prove they are still in control of Iraq as a last ditch effort to prove they should be in power. Now we have Baathists going back into the Gov't. His death penalty needs to be carried out ASAP to ensure that it is never overturned by friendlies with power.
