Amazing. Earlier this place was abuzz with triumphalism saying the doom of the Rats was at hand and the death knell of the MSM was sounding, their polls to be proved wrong to the world.
Now we're desperately clinging to a Senate seat in Montanta that, if lost, will put us at the mercy of the Dems--who will show no hesitation to flex their newfound muscles.
The GOP could have done so much. Instead it chose consensus-building, which is a fool's errand. Now the Dems will show them how a majority party rules.

Burns is within 2 points and 7 thousand votes with well over 20% left to count

I will pray with you - and God is still God, whether we win or lose.
I have had so many miracles in my life, I know that God is good, regardless of tonight. There will be other miracles and we will live to see them...

Okay, you shouldn't be "crushed". Go have a cup of tea. We'll recover.

7000 is a lot in that state. Lets pray he somehow pulls it out.

This may sound simple minded, but I have found in my personal life that God has a plan and usually in hindsight I see a reason for things to happen the way they do.
I hope in the bigger scope of things this is one of those times..

I hate to say it, but it ain't happening. Gallatin County is still coming in. I've lived here my entire life. It's a large county (growing quickly) and includes the college (MSU), a number of CA transplants, and other liberal types.
It's over :o(.

Breaking news?
God we sound like a bunch of rats clinging to strings like the 2004 election.. We lost..face it..and move on.. Now the dems have to take it on the chin when shit goes south.. thats about all we can hope for...

It is over my FRiend, we lost the Senate and the House. However we still have the Presidency, the most powerful institution and more powerful than both the House and the Senate combined. Let us support our President Bush so he can continue to lead in the war on terror, and now lead us against the democrat liberal Congress here at home.

If that is true, why did Gallatin go for Bush in 2004 by more than a 12% margin? Just wondering, but I read that elsewhere. Seems like the current lead of less than 6000 votes could be overcome in a county with over 60000 votes.

right now (with 46% reporting in Gallatin County),
Tester 8530
Burns 8400
Like I said, it's over :o(. I knew it was going to be close enough that the extra votes weren't going to be there.
To: BigSkyFreeper
I just looked at the Montana website.
Burns is behind by about 8,000.
There are 7 counties with zero votes counted. Bush carried these counties by about 8,000 total.
The turnout isn't as good as '04, things aren't looking as rosy for Republicans and Burns ain't Bush...
What more can I say? Doesn't look too promising.

I hope in the bigger scope of things this is one of those times.. I hope you are right -- remember when we ran Dole against Clinton -- if Dole had won, he probably would have lost to somebody (Gore?) in 2000. Then Gore would have been POTUS when we were attacked.
I can't figure out the purpose for all of this --
