It is so true...the Democrats ran on "Hatred for Bush...vote here" and WON. Disgust is a powerful emotion, more powerful than desire in many cases.
Republican leadership erred in saying Democrats offer nothing positive...well, that is meaningless as disgust, not desire was the motivator.
Disgust says "never again" and it can turn lives around, (e.g. conversion on a wasted life, lose 60 lbs, etc) Democrats harnessed disgust and blew past the republicans.
So I ask this forum, what do we really hate? We better find the 2-3 themes and start shouting about it. The watered-down deferential compassionate crap doesn't sell.
I guess it's a day for vanities....
Politics. ;)
Well, if you elect conservatives then they better run as conservatives. The pubs abandoned their base and they abandoned them. This election is as simple as that.
I hate getting killed by terrorists.
Right now they hate Bush too (and those rascally RINOs).
We hate people with Parkinson's disease.
We hate women and children.
We hate people with "alternative lifestyles."
We hate old people.
We hate poor people.
We hate black and brown people.
That just about does it. /sarcasm off
i hate it when people make babies cry
You know what I'm beginning to think....
IF we dont wrap up the Iraq war fast, and favorably, we are doomed to a repeat of this in '08.
We need to have the daily deaths of brave American soldiers NOT be an issue in two years. We need to prove the Iraq war accomplished something good and lasting and noble BEFORE the next general election.
Or else all the spinning and maneuvering will be for naught. If we want to get the folks focused on spending and judges and immigration, we have got to get this Iraq business finished.
Independents voted OVERWHELMINGLY against the GOP this cycle, and that is what contributed mightily to the debacle. Two years ago they were with Bush enough to help us win; now two years later they view IRaq as a quagmire and voted Democrat in a major switcheroo.
Iraq has to be dealt with effectively and soon, not just for the sake of our soldiers who are at risk and for the sake of our country's security, but for the sake of the next election.
Me too...but the message "What did we do to provoke them and make it worse" put out by Democrats is the winning message right now....so it is Bush's fault.
Messaging is everything.....my reply to "why do they hate us?" is that I HATE THEM MORE AND I WANT TO DESTROY THEM.
Republican leadership start with the tripe, " we know Islam is a peace loving religion and we do not want to offend those who practice Ramadan, love Allah, blah, blah, blah...then go on to say it is a sliver of extremists"
Well, if it is a small slice of extremists, why a war? Just go on tactical SWAT-oriented operations...WHICH IS IT?
...it is easier to get angry and pout than it is to meditate and vote? that's my take here.. a lot of voters stayed home "teaching" us a lesson.. what a mistake they have made.
I hate sitting next to a crying baby.
I couldn't disagree more. The last thing voters want to see is vengeant Republicans.
Bush should take a page from the Dem playbook: Say one thing, do another. What do I mean by that? The president should make nice-nice with the new congress while, behind the scenes, doing all in his power to stymie their most damaging proposals. It certainly worked for them.
If conservatives ever want to regain the majority they're going to have to suck it up and give Bush some maneuvering room. Pick our battles wisely, not demand purity on every issue. It won't be fun, but it's the only path back to a majority.
The Liberal Media Wing of the Democrat Party.
Right on....we should have wiped out Fallujah (sp), and razed a few others and left...instead, we do this nation-building mission stuff.
Enjoy your turn in the barrel.
Messaging is everything...republicans do good things and trust the people will see it....while leftist media runs hundreds of stories on Abu Graib, republicans "trust the judgment of the American people..." RIGHT
Enjoy your next two minutes. Can you say ZOT? Sure you can flunky.
