Let Conservatives Remember
Many threads and posts today are expressing heartfelt pain, worry, and frustration over the results of yesterdays election. While I share in those feelings, it also saddens me to read about other peoples misery over this. I know that some of you are deeply distressed and this adds to my sadness.
Across this unhappiness, however, I am struck at the fact that so many of us appear to overlook a basic element of our conservative beliefs. We all believe that there are foundational values that are the rock of our character and our actions. And it is in times of distress that we must remember those values. While we may have lost political power yesterday and there will be continuing consequences to this loss, we have not lost our values.
The values we need to follow today are the values of loyalty, patience, and prudence.
We must remain loyal. For some of us, the pain of losing is causing us to question very loudly the qualities of our leaders and other elected or appointed officials. Right now we need to affirm our loyalty to those Republicans who remain on the job and let them know that we support them. Certainly there will be changes and big changes, but they must proceed from the firm conviction that we support each other. We should also reach out to those who really lost yesterday, like Senator Rick Santorum, a good conservative man who lost a race and a job. Men and women like this need to know we support them.
We must remain patient. The pain of losing is causing some of us to demand quick punishment of some people and a rapid loyalty check. It took us some time to get into this situation and it will take us some time to get out of it. We need to take a longer view and no longer give counsel to our fears.
Finally, we must remain prudent. We lost elections yesterday. A prudent person will consider these losses with wisdom, thoughtfulness, and acceptance. Right now we are seeing examples of imprudent behaviors, not only in our threads and posts here, but also from other media sources. We all know how to spot prudence and its opposite. Quiet reflection is more likely to accompany prudence while noise distinguishes pride and foolishness.
We lost an election, but not our values. Remember that.
bookmarked.. *bump*
Nice uplifting post! Thank you.
Well said, though.
This is the normal grieving moment.
When we have mourned this painful situation, we will get up, shake off our dust, and work for what we believe in.
As sincere as your post may be, the endless vanities on here are beginning to sound like a lecture. And personally, I'm just a little tired of it.
Unfortunate as it is that the Republicans have lost control of the Congress, they have no one to blame but themselves.

Once again, and I don't know how many times I've said this today, but it's already high time to quit mourning and to stand and fight. These goosestepping liberal rats will definitely provide a target-rich environment for us as they attempt to screw up the economy and the war effort before the 2008 election cycle.
In the words of one of the great observers and commentators of our time, it looks like the voters threw a tantrum yesterday.
Conservatives do need to remember...that when it came down to this election they voted, others did not.
You got that right. I am angry and ready.
Amen, Bigh4u2. They abandoned their base, and this is what they get.
I have no loyalty to a party label that presents itself as conservative and then fails every test..
Change all those "republican" to conservative, and I would agree with your post...
As Rush said, not one word was spoken about the economy and unemployment, or the fact that we have a robust market.
Just sniping and jabbing, instead of sticking to conservative values and principles.
Last night was one of the worst nights of my life. Honestly. Today, is a new day! I had lunch with my financial advisor today and visited with a colleague here in my office. Also, I e-mailed and received e-mail from a friend. All 3 of these guys are fellow conservatives. You need support. FR may not be enough. Seek your support. The exercises I did today helped me tremendously! This change in power was to be expected. In some ways welcome. We, as conservatives, believe in ourselves. If they raise taxes, we'll make up for it. Don't follow in the footsteps of a liberal. When they lost these last few times, they were upset because it meant less hand-outs for them. We don't do hand-outs.
This is the first time in my life I have actually been happy about republican losses. I think, strategically, this is a REALLY good thing!
When you stand in the middle of the road, you get run over. Republican pols have abandoned their core values either to be "liked" by everyone, for personal gain, or looking the other way. They deserve the results of this election. I have great admiration for President Bush - but he is the head of his party and is responsible for this loss.
We must also learn from this. Some of this was self inflicted. The Republicans had become arrogant in there thinking. The opportunity to put the dems out of business for a long time to come was at hand and let slip away. If the Republicans can't find a way to help the common person they will continue to give the dems ammunition every election.
This country has been hanging by a thread for a long while now. After this new Congress, the current social progressive President, and a population that now thinks they have voted themselves free everything, I won't reconize this country in 2 years.
Let me know when the ship sails.
Bravo, Bravo...My first reaction to our loss was what my tagline says.
Lets all see what the dems will do with their "mandate".
