Hotline: Republicans Will Pressure Allen... Soon
Hotline/National Journal ^ | November 8, 2006

Posted on 11/08/2006 4:15:25 PM PST by RWR8189

Top Republicans in Washington will give Sen. George Allen a few days to take stock of his legal and political options before beginning to pressure him to concede to James Webb. Senior Republican officials and White House aides believe that Webb won the race. Several outside advisers to Allen want him to make the decision quickly; others in his campaign want to make sure that there's no chance a cache of new votes will turn up. One question: when will (will?) the AP call the race? [MARC AMBINDER]

Schumer boasted that he was appointing federal judges to the courts in NY up until now. Apparently, he never read the Constitution.

Can you believe how arrogant Schmucky Chucky will be now? Yes, he is scary.

Schumer also said that if GWB had fired Rumsfeld back in September or October, and not the day after the election, the GOP would have kept control of both the Senate and the House.

GWB hurt us bad on that one. And if he had vetoed some of those damn spending bills.

The buck stops at GWB.

Yes, it's about time for GWB to find that old "veto" stamp in his desk and use it often in the next two years!

He would certainly figure to have enough votes in the new Congress to assure that his vetoes will generally not be overridden.

Of course they do. And from the sounds of things, they're not all that unhappy about it.

See tagline.

"Thanks. Glad we agree."

Thank you for the thoughtful post. I happen to think that all votes should be counted first and foremost. If the state involved has a procedure for close elections, I think it is good to go through that procedure.

Beyond that, it may be correct to fight more, or it may be best to concede.

This election is not at the fight more, or concede point, so just let the process continue. I don't see anything, in and of itself creating a problem with the procedures to continue. I am sure there are ways someone might try to take advantage, but we don't have evidence of that either, so let this continue on the path it is now on until conclusion.

I don't know who got the most votes between these two, but no one else does either.

How nice for Chuckie to give "friendly" advice as he gloated in his glory!

Don't think firing Rumsfeld back then would have done anything but hurt the GOP. The 'Rats would have jumped on it as a move made desperately for political gain, and they'd be right on that one. And Bush would be perceived within GOP ranks as a backstabber. Plus it would have had a negative impact on the military's morale.

More time will yield more fraud by dems.

Maybe, but only if the Republican board members are permitted to look for the fraud and are courageous enough to do so.

[Webb] is one step short of the armbands and goosestepping,,, There's still a current of Ku Klux Klan attitudes here and candidates like...Jim Webb appeal to them.

In view of this, do you think that the exposure of Allen's partial Jewish ancestry took away enough votes to have cost him this election?

Does this mean the end of Allen's presidential aspirations?

During the 2004 election, I saw a piece on Fox News where they were aboard a Navy ship, and showed footage of a voting area set up and the on board post office actually running the ballots through a post marking machine. They wanted no doubts that the military ballots were date stamped by election day. I know what I saw. I will research further however and get back to you, if you still have doubts.

What possible benefit would it be for the GOP for Allen to concede?

Getting this out of the news cycle before the FBI investigations start turning up embarassments.

The fact that Schumer is putting pressure on Allen and Burns to concede suggests that Chuckie is not confident that the Dem victory margins in those races will hold up after further scrutiny.

Yes, thank goodness.

Since the Senate is so close

Close doesn't count.

I doubt that Allen has the votes, I'm pretty sure that his advisers know this, and if we had leadership, they'd be on the phone making a deal right now. Horse trading

There may be a deal to downplay the FBI investigation of those phony phone calls in return for Allen going away.

The Great Commonwealth doesn't work that way. The votes have to be received , not postmarked by election day. The votes are in that are going to get counted.

I'm just curious, do you really think the Allen camp has more to be embarrassed by than the Webb camp? There seemed to be plants at many of Allen's campaign stops, and they were constantly yelling out things to embarrass him and to throw him off his message. Many of those comments were lies, but they planted seeds of wrong doing by Allen. People who hardly knew him made accusations, but his friends said they were outright lies. This they did with the help of the MSM! I believe The Washington Post had a lot to do with Webb being ahead, and I hope they pay dearly for it! The FBI investigations could very well be more embarrassing for the Webb camp IMHO.
