Meet The New Speaker (Pelosi supported initiatives for needle exchange programs for AIDS sufferers

Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the House minority leader certain to become the next speaker of the House, served for years on the executive committee of the socialist-leaning Progressive Caucus, a bloc of about 60 votes or nearly 30 percent of the minority vote in the lower chamber.

Until 1999, the website of the Progressive Caucus was hosted by the Democratic Socialists of America. Following an expose of the link between the two organizations in WorldNetDaily, the Progressive Caucus established its own website under the auspices of Congress. Another officer of the Progressive Caucus, and one of its guiding lights, is avowed socialist Rep. Bernie Sanders, the Vermont independent.

The Democratic Socialists of America's chief organizing goal is to work within the Democratic party and remove the stigma attached to "socialism" in the eyes of most Americans.

"Stess our Democratic Party strategy and electoral work," explains an organizing document of the DSA. "The Democratic Party is something the public understands, and association with it takes the edge off. Stressing our Democratic Party work will establish some distance from the radical subculture and help integrate you to the milieu of the young liberals."

...Her votes against the resolution authorizing the use of force in Iraq and in support of such domestic initiatives as needle exchange programs for AIDS sufferers may not be far out of step with her district constituency...

Last time I checked the Speaker of The House was an ELECTED position. Nobody has a right to it.

The dems ran a lot of conservatives this time around in order to take the House and Senate. Could be some of them do not want this nutjob for speaker, only one heartbeat and a pacemaker away from the presidency.

>>socialist-leaning Progressive Caucus

"leaning"- heh. That's putting it mildly.

The Progressive Caucus is the Congressional affiliate of the Democratic Socialists of America.

The efforts by the radicals to get Pelosi and a number of other Far Left female Reps in here in the Bay Area go all the way back to the 80s. There was a wave of them who got elected between 1985 and 1994.

I don't give a hootin' holler if she did support a needle exchange program. In fact, it's probably not a bad way to slow down the spread of AIDS. What do you recommend as an alternative?

I'm a Libertarian. I think drugs should be legal.

No diabetic has ever contracted AIDS from injecting insulin, because it's legal for them to buy clean needles.

I'm against the government paying for the needles or running the program. Heroin users should pay for their own needles at private stores.

You said -- "The dems ran a lot of conservatives this time around in order to take the House and Senate. Could be some of them do not want this nutjob for speaker, only one heartbeat and a pacemaker away from the presidency."

This is the same kind of stuff (and "thinking") that was going on *before* the election, which said that we were not going to lose the House and Senate and how the Democrats were "running scared" and that Rove had his "surprise" ready and waiting. This is *all more of the same*.

It's more *denial* and it's going to work just as well as the election worked (for the Republicans).

I posted the warnings from many sources where they were saying that it looked like big-time losses (just like what did happen) -- about a month prior to the election. All I got back were denials and denials and "gobbly-gook" type of details, designed to re-inforce those denials. Those who didn't want to engage in political "gobbly-gook-speak" -- simply referred to Rove and his "surprise" (some rabbit he was going to pull out of his hat).

We can see what all that did -- absolutely nothing.

And likewise, I can see more and more -- this board is simply going the way of denial, gobbly-gook-speak, more denial and some sort of "twilight-zone-politics" designed to make the losers feel good (or "whatever").

It's going to be the same way with the Speaker of the House. I'll simply keep this thread for *reference* -- and be back again to comment on it *when* they get their Speaker of the House. THEN, we'll see what was more *reality* and what was *figment of the imagination*.

Regards,
Star Traveler

Needle exchange programs are akin to providing free razor blades to suicidal people.

And I don't give a hootin' holler if you don't give a hootin holler.

Comprende? Good.

But what does the needle exchange program do? Let them just exist? Wow, what a life they will have.

I read your post a couple of times, but I can't seem to find an alternative. You would prefer more AIDS?

What do you think should be done? The needle exchange program gives them clean needles so they are less likely to contract HIV.

Call me a prude, but I feel the same way also. Why should the government pay to support an individual's drug addiction?

domestic initiatives as needle exchange programs for AIDS sufferers

Not to sound callous, but if they already have AIDS, why do they need a needle exchange program?
