Former Brig. Gen. Janis Karpinski to testify on behalf of plaintiffs... (Rumsfeld)
Drudge

Posted on 11/10/2006 11:19:17 AM PST by NYleatherneck

Lawyers for the plaintiffs say that one of the witnesses who will testify on their behalf is former Brig. Gen. Janis Karpinski, the one-time commander of all U.S. military prisons in Iraq. Karpinski — who the lawyers say will be in Germany next week to publicly address her accusations in the case — has issued a written statement to accompany the legal filing, which says, in part: "It was clear the knowledge and responsibility [for what happened at Abu Ghraib] goes all the way to the top of the chain of command to the Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld ."

Stupid cow. SHE was the local commanding officer, at any point she could have put an end to all of it. If she was so damned concerned about prisoner treatment, she would have put aside her career and spoken up....dumb bitch.

She can stay in Germany. BTW, what standing does a German court have in the matter?

The responsibility falls on the individual in charge, on the ground. That would be the Brig. Gen.

I hope she doesn't expect to return to the U.S. ...ever. She needs to be tossed in the slammer as soon as she sets foot on U.S. soil.

Now that Rummy is a private citizen, who knows... I assume that we have an extradition treaty with Germany.

Germany was chosen for the court filing because German law provides "universal jurisdiction" allowing for the prosecution of war crimes and related offenses that take place anywhere in the world.

Huh? They think they can sue anyone for anything, anywhere in the world?

It's time to bomb them again...

Maybe if Rumsfeld and his Pentagon pussies had spent more time fighting the war and less time prosecuting our troops on trumped up charges with the enemy as the only witnesses, we would be in a better position. Rummy, his Generals, the Joint Chiefs, and their staff should all be tossed out. They couldn't wipe MacArthur's ass.

You see? She was just a girl taking orders from a bully boy. Everybody understands how that can happen.

Careful, General...

You were claiming that you had no idea WTF was going on in your own command, but that someone many echelons higher than you knew everything?

Let's read that last part again:

goes all the way to the top of the chain of command to the Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

Hello, there! Hey, General, you're now confessing that you you're guilty!

Guess they didn't get it the first time around. Rumsfeld being DOD secty. the first time around, in the Cold War, shielding Germany's hindquarters, doesn't count for anything, I guess.

This is just the beginning. The dems are going to start their "oversight" in February. They say now that impeachment is off the table. But they will uncover things in their "oversight" that COMPEL them to move to impeach Bush and Cheney. It will be their Constitutional duty. Just wait.

Extradition only works if the attorney general agrees and you are living in 49 of the fifty states. I doubt seriously that Texas Rangers would allow any German authority to step on sacred soil there to take Rummy...and US Marshalls might find themselves in a unfair fight if they attempted to take Rummy in Texas.

I presume Janis was a Clinton-era, affirmative action, don't ask, don't tell General officer selectee?

If this crap goes down in a German court, why would any American stand in Iraq and continue to fight for a CinC or country that throws war heroes like Rummie to the socialist wolves of the "world" court? World socialists and liberals (including Americans) will try to hang Rumsfeld rather than Saddam....for humiliating terrorist suspects in a prison flecked with human dna from real victims of saddam's decades of shredding, raping, electrocuting
