We lost because we won't fight! It all sticks to Republicans because they won't refute anything thrown at them, let alone stand up for themselves or fight.
We certainly won't miss subpoena power since no Republicans ever use it. (Remembering back to the pathetic hearings the Republicans were forced into holding after their '94 takeover, it's just as well to not remind the electorate how incompetent Republicans are at governing.) Evidently Hastert sticking up for Jefferson was the tip of the iceberg because we don't stand up for ourselves, just for the other guys.
The beauty of that story is that every one knows who Mozart was and what he accomplished.
Quick, everyone, without google who was that "king" and what did he do?
So far we're batting 0 for 2. The Democrats are WAY too smart to let Rumsfeld's resignation take the electorate's eye off "Bush's War." All Bush has done is agree with the Democrats and admit that he and Rumsfeld have fought an incompetent war. As for Bolton, the nomination is being killed by a Republican and they don't even have to touch it. To date, Bush hasn't stopped digging and the Democrats have two wins without lifting a finger.
"The electorate is a whole lot smarter than they're given credit for."
Yeah, you must be right.
These "smart" voters threw out the GOP because of their high-spending.
And replaced them with... Democrats.
LOL!
This thread, like the hundreds of others like it on FR are even more depressing than the election results.
Everybody has saddled up their hobby horses for delusions on parade.
The Democrats finger is already all over this war and they are going to deserve what happens when we pull out. I don't think Bush has admitted any thing of the kind. He has to react to the funding most likely being cut. The Dems are not Way too smart, they just might be stamping the epitaph on their own grave. They have won nothing and Americans have lost. Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it. Someone like you needs to thank those who have served honorably so that you can make a remark like that!
"Same old same old. After throwing their temper tantrum in 1992 the Perotists ran around desperate for scapegoats to blame for what THEY did. Actually take the time ONCE to LEARN the facts on Iraq."
Your wasting your breath, I'm afraid.
It's weird, it used to be that people said "victory has a thousand fathers, but defeat is an orphan."
Yet so many here just can't wait to post how they caused the defeat because nobody would listen to them.
This forum was flooded with crackpot Birchers, isolationists and the like back in 1998-1999. They are all coming out of the woodwork with a vengeance.
And sadly, like illegal aliens, there are now too many of them here to do anything about it.
Repubs didn't act like conservatives as a party...that's why we lost in NH and everywhere else. I don't care how much time Bradley has on his hands when you got Bass not backing Bush.
"If the electorate had replaced the Republicans as majority with, say Libertarians, or Rastafarians, or Nefarians, maybe you could make that claim. But to replace Republicans with the only party who's demonstrated time and again that they govern even more poorly is the sine quo non of stupidity."
You forget. The only menu choices are R or D, with no substitutions. The electorate realizes that a vote for a third party at this point (where that's even an option) is essentially the same as not voting. So they vote for the only real opposition on the ballot. Nothing prevents the electorate from voting the other way two years from now if they don't like the results.
Personally, I would prefer that there were other choices. But there really aren't. Through restrictive ballot access laws and so-called campaign finance reform, the Republicans and Democrats have assured themselves a duopoly for the forseeable future.
"These "smart" voters threw out the GOP because of their high-spending. And replaced them with... Democrats."
And who else were they going to replace them with? The two menu choices are R or D, with no substitutions.
Exactly what remark did I make that causes you to think I do not hold our military in the highest regard and that I need to apologize for making it? I not only thank my husband, now retired after a career in the military, and others in my family who are presently serving our country, but I pray for their safety as well. My husband thinks that Rumsfeld is far and away the best Secretary of Defense we have had in his life time and he is glad that Rummy will not have to bite his tongue and suck it up in hearing after investigation while being grilled by a bunch of fools. The very act of offering up his head to the Democrats the day after losing the election makes me sick, and I'm afraid that it is just the first signal that we will shortly be leaving Iraq a mess, allowing Iran and the terrorists to take their first steps to driving us from the M.E., and all our sacrifices will have been for nothing. Maybe the Democrats have "won nothing," but the country and our military have lost plenty and it appears to be just the beginning of the losses. Care to give an explanation of your post to "someone like"...me?
You sound as smart as your "smart voters."
God help the Republic.
"You sound as smart as your "smart voters."
Well, I guess I'm to take that as a compliment. So thank you.
Why the Republicans lost? Because the average American voter is short-sighted, uninformed and just plain DUMB!
Somehow it's no surprise you are a Democrat.
First thing is I probably owe you an apology. Here it is and it isn't Kerry style. I reacted to the remark that Bush was admitting to Pelosi and the Dems that the war handling was incompetent. I don't think he admitted that in that horrible presser, but I do think he knew that the Dems would put the screws to the war no matter what. Seems obvious now, that the GOP knew we were going to lose, hence this Baker commission. A short while back I posted a comment similar. Some soldiers let me have it. I think they are tired of us doubting that Bush was winning and that they are winning. I was also told that they were introduced to Rummys replacement on the Saturday before the election. Maybe Bush didn't fire Rummy, maybe Rummy didn't want to have to be the architect of a US pullout and loss, like Vietnam. Of course. If the Dems defund the war there is nothing Bush can do but find a way out. Sad. Anyway, I hope you aren't to irritated with me , I think we are in agreement.
Very well put!
