WHY WE LOST?

Simple: Neocon agenda and immigration. Why is this a mystery? See vdare.com

Numbers USA has some interesting numbers on losses by candidates for strict control vs candidates with more liberal immigration ideas.

11.5% of all Republican seats in Congress were lost as Democrats took back control of Congress

But only 6.7% of the Members of Tancredo's Immigration Reform Caucus lost their seats.

Loss of Election by Republicans Based on Their Immigration-Reduction Grade of This Congress

9.6% with an A grade lost

25.0% with an F grade lost

Immigration? Are the Dinocon really this politically incompetent?

The ONLY people who stood tough on the Border, the US House Republicans, just got one of the worst political beat downs in History. You all just fired the ONLY people who were on your side in DC. NO one is listening to your views on Immigration now fools. You sent exactly the wrong message to DC.

I know you all think you sent a message. What DC heard was "Stand tough on Immigration, get fired."

Way to rip out your political tounge to send your brain the wrong message

Thank you for a very good summary. I came to the conclusion a long time ago that the first place one should look when trying to understand failure is right in the mirror. The constant pointing of fingers to at everything and anything to blame this loss on EXCEPT the inept Republican leadership is wearing a little thin.

America will still be theoretically able to wage war in its national security interest, which as of now is in very serious doubt.

It won't be so theoretical if gas prices ever hit $10 a gallon. That would be an intolerable situation for Americans, regardless of their level in society or current political leanings. The national urge to wage war would be uncontainable.

Also, while outside the scope of the piece, it should be noted that the Dems are quite capable of self-destructing over the next two years, if not sooner. To be sure, they were clever and deceitful in their pursuit to regain control of Congress, however this does not mean they have somehow been magically transformed into an invincible juggernaut. Their victory was more style than substance. As Rush said, they won something with nothing so don't assume the Dems will suddenly morph into a smooth running political machine that, on the strength of its "agenda" and "leadership", will set the long-term direction for America. That just isn't going to be the case. More likely, they will find a way to implode. Count on it.
