Jim Morrison's Dad Breaks Silence
ROCK 103 Memphis ^ | November 9, 2006 | AP

"The fact that he's dead is unfortunate but looking back on his life it's a very pleasant thought."

The father of late The Doors singer Jim Morrison has branded the death of his estranged son "unfortunate," despite the rocker often singing about his family's imagined demise.

George Morrison, a retired Navy admiral, insists memories of his rocker son are "pleasant" - even though he once joked his parents were dead and used Oedipal rant "The End" to imagine killing his dad and sleeping with his mother.

However, in a new memoir of the band, George remains positive about his child.

Contributing to "The Doors by The Doors" he says, "We look back on him with great delight.

"The fact that he's dead is unfortunate but looking back on his life it's a very pleasant thought.

"I had the feeling that he felt we'd just as soon not be associated with his career. He knew I didn't think rock music was the best goal for him. Maybe he was trying to protect us."

Morrison died in Paris, France of a heart attack in 1971.

I doubt that Samuel Elliot Morrison(Morison)... would have been so gracious.

I never appreciated Christopher Columbus' accomplishments until I read his 'Admiral of the Ocean Sea'. A fascinating book.

He researches C.C's logs, and retraces C.C's voyage of discovery in a sailboat. Uses landmarks described in the logs to find what he believes to be the exact islands, beaches, etc.

IIRC his son committed treason or something similar.

"You're a trusting soul ... accuse a woman you don't even know of sleeping around? "

Oh come on, That statement was made in jest but, it's not a far stretch. A lot of infedelity in the services while the men are off.

"I bet you're a boatload of fun if someone you're involved with is a few minutes late and/or steps out of bounds."

Don't pretent to know anything about me or my personality - you don't have a clew (he he).

Judge George Greer, who ok'd the slow killing of Terri Schiavo. was Jim Morrison' housemate in college.

You know what's long overdue?
A Ouija-style board (like Iowahawk's masterpiece below) to document all the perfidious links in the Vast Terri Schiavo Conspiracy™...

From Wikipedia, Mick Jagger's Bio:

Early life Jagger was born into a middle-class family at Livingstone Hospital, East Hill, Dartford, Kent, England. His father, Joe, and his paternal grandfather were both teachers; his mother, Eva, an Australian immigrant to England, was an active member of the Conservative Party. Eva died in 2000; Joe died in 2006 aged 93 [1]. Jagger was the older of two sons and was raised to follow in his father's career path. Academically successful, he attended Dartford Grammar School, before entering the London School of Economics on a scholarship. He studied for a degree in accounting and finance, attended for less than a year and did not graduate; dropping out to pursue a musical career.

Jim Morrison, lived in Albuquerque as a child and according to his own legend, was possessed by the spirit of an Indian road-construction worker who died in a car wreck north of the Duke City.

As a guitar teacher, I use the examples of these tragic figures to illustrate to my students that using drugs robs one of creative vigor and will prematurely end what could have been a long and brilliant career. The result is that many of my students learn to enjoy a lifetime of music and the fun of playing an instrument while they go on to college and become engineers, lawyers, architects, or military officers, etc. Like that shipwreck poster on Despair.com says, "It may be that the purpose of your life is to serve as a warning to others." That's certainly the case with Kobain, Hendrix, Morrison, and others.

"He's not dead. HE faked his death and is a rancher in montana or wyoming. He talked about his past to someone who relayed it on coast to coast am. The picture they posted of him (now aged) was a perfect match. His father is protecting his son the best way he can - by spreading disinformation - a military specialty."

?!

"I hate it that all these guys die young and we don't get to see what happens."

Based on my years of experience dealing with people like Morrison (i.e., alcoholic drug addicts) on a fairly regular basis in the ER, I can tell you that if Morrison, Cobain, Hendrix, et al had not died young, they would have probably just died a little older...

That is, of course, after they left a still longer trail of emotional suffering behind them. The end is generally the same, and the price paid by the survivors is always forgotten by those who would idolize people like Jim Morrison.

At the end of the day, Morrison was just a nihilistic, narcissistic, self-absorbed little punk.

That was good. Bookmarked for future reference. My first thought when I saw the Texas Rangers implicated was that Chuck Norris might have been involved.

Thankfully the universe is safe as it was a reference to the Baseball team instead.

Morrison was all you said and more. He was very talented.

The age old argument about artists' talents and their personal life and whether the latter negates the former has apparently been won in your mind but not in mine.

And your experience aside, we know that people like Morrison come to bad ends. But not always. And not uniformly.

He came from good genes, perhaps his end would have been better.

We just have a different view on this. Surely you would allow for that?
