Newspaper Advertising Revenue at Gannett Falls in October (Dinosaur Media DeathWatchâ„¢)

NEW YORK Advertising revenue at Gannett grew 2.0% in October mostly due to gains at its broadcast division.

At the newspaper division, ad revenue fell 2.0% on a 2.0% decline in Run of Press (ROP) volume and a 2.6% decrease in preprint distribution.

Local advertising was up 1.4% on a small decline in ROP ad volume. Small and mid-sized advertisers outpaced large advertisers.

Classified revenue decreased 3.4% on a 1.8% decline in ROP ad volume. Within the category, real estate was up 3.0%. Employment revenue dropped 6.9%. Automotive decreased 11.2%. In the U.S., classified revenue fell 4.2% on a 1.4% increase in real estate revenue and an 8.7% and 9.1% decline in employment and automotive revenues respectively.

National advertising slipped 7.0% on an 18% decline in ad volume.

At USA Today, ad revenue dropped 3.2% on a decline in paid ad pages to 419 from 454. The paper reported gains in travel, entertainment, telecommunications, retail, and real estate categories offset by weakness in automotive, technology, advocacy, and financial categories.
