Senate Coverage -- (November - December '06)
THOMAS ^ | November - December '06

Posted on 11/13/2006 12:09:41 PM PST by Mo1

Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).

So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.

If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.

Here's a few helpful links.

C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.

C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.

C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.

C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.

OR FEDNET has online feed also.

A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).

THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]

Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority

And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.

Lindsay Graham up asking if Hayden has met with the Attorney General of Afghanistan and some of his administration

Hayden say not yet, he has only met President Karazan

Lindsay says well you should because PresidentKarazan is corrupt and part of the problem

Now he's giving Hayden a hard time about Iraq and if the people of Iraq really want us there

Seems Lindsay is concerned about the Lawyers in Iraq being killed and how they need more protection

Asks why are we having a stupid deabte about more troops .. why are we stuck on a troop level that isn't working

Ooops .. my mistake

"and some of his administration " .. that was part of Hayden's comment of the people he has met .. not part of the question Graham asked

Sounds like Linseed was willing to get snarky with the mild mannered Hayden, but not so with the much more muscular Gen. Abazaid. The little putz.

Sessions is the only decent man there. I couldn't stand listening to Graham...walked away.

Abizaid is living this- Graham and the Gag of 14 are theorizing..

Kind of interesting. Byron Dorgan up trying to scuttle the agreement with India on nuclear issues. He thinks the Non-proliferation Treaty is working, I guess. He seems unaware that anything has changed since the Cold War.

I heard him for a while...I guess they just HAVE to get up a complain about every little thing...

Everytime I turned up the sound on the Senate yesterday..it was complain, complain, complain.

I am really sick of it...then I notice in the schedule that C-span set aside an HOUR, for Kennedy and Harkin to talk about the minumum wage!!! sheesh

RE: the minimum wage? Maybe it could go up a bit...but, all it does is reduce jobs...nasty little byproduct of raising it, eh?

Also...I have seen where quite a few states and cities have had minimum wage raises on their own ballots...so, I say...just turn it all over to the state...because, the minimum wage in Texas goes a LOT farther than the same amount in New York or California.

Therefore, small businesses in Texas or say Missouri don't have to lose employees by having to pay the same as those other states...JMO.

Absolutely. I just wish I could see some way to stop the federal government from meddling in all these areas where it has no business. Fat chance.

Whenever we get a candidate like Coburn elected..the old guard shun him...so unless we can get a LOT of them in at one time, that can override the ones that won't change their ways...we won't have a chance.
