CREW Blasts Pelosi Endorsement of Unethical Murtha for Majority Leader
U.S.Newswire ^ | 11-13-2006 | Naomi Seligman Steiner

WASHINGTON, Nov. 13 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) questioned soon- to-be House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) commitment to eradicating corruption with her endorsement of one of the most unethical members in Congress, Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.), to be Majority Leader of the House of Representatives.

Rep. Murtha was listed in CREW' report Beyond DeLay: The 20 Most Corrupt Members of Congress (and five to watch). As reported in the study and by the news media, Rep, Murtha has been involved in a number of pay-to play schemes involving former staffers and his brother, Robert "Kit" Murtha.

"Future House Speaker Pelosi's endorsement of Rep. Murtha, one of the most unethical members of Congress, shows that she may have prioritized ethics reform merely to win votes with no real commitment to changing the culture of corruption," Melanie Sloan, executive director of CREW said today. "How can Americans believe that the Democrats will return integrity to the House when future Speaker Pelosi has endorsed an ethically-challenged member for a leadership position? Rep. Murtha is the wrong choice for this job."

The New York Times reported on Oct. 2 that . . . . Murtha has consistently opposed ethics and earmark reform. Sloan continued, "Rep. Murtha's opposition to ethics reform does not bode well for future Speaker Pelosi's promise to enact ethics legislation in the first 100 hours of the new Congress."

Oh, I don't know. It will probably track pretty well with Clinton's "most ethical adminstration in history"... Remember that one?

Is that the administration with the 48 convictions of members of Clinton's administration? Not to mention the unexplained deaths and small things like missing FBI files, cattle futures profits and stealing of the Presidential china? (No pun intended)

Or the disbarrment, impeachment and rape accusations?

Well, if that's the case, Pelosi is off to a great start.

"stealing of the presidential china"

Actually, I thought it was the silverware. China is too bulky to slip discreetly into coat pockets.

Many Freepers were scandalized at how "unethical" the Repubs were because a couple were caught in a lobbying scandal and one RESIGNED because of sex.

LOL. Now we have inmates running the asylum.

This story is getting play in the media, which is all to the good. If anyone's interested, there's also a CREW press release thread.

She's elected now. All those promises mean nothing. Her constituents didn't believe a word she said anyway.

If you go to the CREW site, you will see that of the 20 named, only two are dims. All the rest are repubs.

That raises a lot of suspicion in my mind. Not that there are 18 repubs, that is not surprising, but that there are not at least as many dims.

So something is wrong.

Hillary is not mentioned.

To their credit, neither is DeLay.

So what and who is Crew. Are they credible?

CREW is a hit squad that digs up something they think may be true and holds on to it until election time. They take action just before the elction to sink any candidate they dislike. Curt Weldon and Foley. They keep away from Jefferson and Reid types.
