A man was arrested and accused of mailing threatening letters laced with white powder to Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, David Letterman and other high-profile figures, the FBI announced Sunday.
FBI agents took Chad Conrad Castagana, 39, into custody Saturday on charges of conveying false information and sending threats via the U.S. mail, the bureau said in a statement....
Authorities claim he mailed threatening letters to [Nancy] Pelosi, [David] Letterman, New York Sen. Charles Schumer, Jon Stewart of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" and MSNBC host Keith Olbermann....

Um, why? Anyone can sign up for an account. Usama bin Laden could sign up for an account on FR. It's not like there's any vetting process.

Why would you think this person is associate with FR? (I haven't read the entire article, just what was posted- is there anything in the article that leads you to believe he's one of us?)

The "Post" didn't call him "a right winger or republican or anything" so I am convinced he is a dem. They never label the libs.
To: Steel Wolf
Actually, I think OBL is on here. I know I've read some posts eerily reminiscent of his language style.

Because the Kos kids over at DU suggest that there is a Freeper who lives in the same area that may be him.

Scary that those scumbags would have bothered to find that out.

Photos? You must be kidding. Then all the people who have so much fun trashing fat people would have to reveal themselves as major consumers of fast food.

Checking the article, the targets of his attacks were absolutely in line with the preferred enemies of readers of this list ("liberal" reporters, celebrities, and politicians). His politics apparently were very much in line with those here, although his tactics were obviously reprehensible.
Checking the other, much larger thread on this topic (already linked above), it appears that it's been confirmed that he was a member (now suspended). Apparently, he often posted in Katherine Harris threads, although I suspect he also had a few laughs from any threads on the fake anthrax letters.
Obviously, that doesn't mean that everyone here is a terrorist like this guy. But it might be a good idea for people to tone down the vicious rhetoric about what they'd like to see done to those that disagree with them.

Again, so what? It takes more work getting a Safeway card than it does an account on FR. If the guy's a nutjob, the guy's a nutjob. If someone robs a bank or carjacks an SUV, do they report on whether or not he's a Democrat or Republican? (Although in the case of most criminals there's probably little wonder as to how they vote)
So, how's is what websites he reads any more relevant than what magazines he reads, or where he lives, or where he banks, or what he does for a living? It's not. If there was some Watergate-like link somewhere, that would be newsworthy. Otherwise, this is a ridiculous guilt-by-association smear.

Yeah, but we usually threaten more harmless stuff like reaching through the tv and punching someone, which is obviously an empty threat because we love our TV's.
Except for those people who don't have a television and make sure you know it by mentioning it in every post relating to television.
I know what he did was wrong, but he didn't actually hurt anyone and the thought of Olberman being a big sissy baby was kinda fun.

I believe he's been suspended over and over- hence the multiple screen names- which means he was not wanted here, therefore not a Freeper. He posted on DU evidently, and they likely didn't want him there either but I would not classify him as a DU guy just because he may have posted there before getting banned.
He's a nut.

You signed up on 11/9/06 to lecture this forum on how to express themselves?
Don't you think you should at least read the forum for a few days before you presume to know what people post and their intentions?
That's like me walking into you home and telling you how you should take care of your house because it isn't up to my standards.

Honestly, he can have whatever opinion he wants to about the GOP cozing up to the Democrats. Obviously, some of the leaders of the Republican party feel the same way.
Even his post(s) contrasting Republicanism and conservatism may have some merit.
But when you say the "readers of this list" [is that the infamous anti-Dixie Chicks Mailing List, by the way?] have "preferred enemies" that are "absolutely in line" with the targets of fake anthrax letters by some bumhug nutbag, your rhetoric is halfway across the bridge to Trollville.
Maybe he's not a troll, maybe it was just an unfortunate choice of words. But I am just really sick of the f'n sleeper trolls here. Like halfway across the bridge to Opusville sick.

Actually, I think OBL is on here. I know I've read some posts eerily reminiscent of his language style. Bin Ladin posts under an assumed identity. His posts mostly claim that Muslims are inherently evil and encourages true Americans to Nuke Mecca.
Worldwide religious warfare is certainly "his language style".
