Gay link sparks Wal-Mart boycott
Toronto Star ^ | 13 November 2006 | Marilyn Geewax

Conservative Christian organizations in the United States are contacting supporters to urge a boycott of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. after U.S. Thanksgiving weekend, because the company is paying a commission to a small gay organization for sending buyers its way.

Each purchase made by clicking through the gay group's website to Wal-Mart's retail site generates a payment worth 5 per cent of the sale.

Donald Wildmon, chair of the American Family Association, said Friday his group has sent emails to 3 million supporters urging a boycott because the deal suggests Wal-Mart executives believe "the homosexual agenda is worthy of their support."

. . .

. . . since August, conservative groups have been hammering Wal-Mart for agreeing to enter into a partnership with the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. The company said it forges business partnerships with many minority organizations to help it attract a diverse array of suppliers.

Much ado about nothing.

You're probably right. Therefore, don't read my statement below as specifically applicable to this situation.

They reintroduced Christmas this year. We should be happy.

In a purely abstract sense, I can't agree with that statement. It is too close to "we should just be happy with whatever crumbs are swept to us from the table".

I give my viewpoint. I don't expect anyone not in agreement to follow it.

I promise, I won't.

Wal Mart has the decency to mention Christmas

That's big of them? Wal-Mart lost a tad bit for not mentioning Christmas in the past. The mere mention of Christmas was pure business. The gays are not shopping there, so now they choose to wine and dine the Christians.

Yes, Walmart may be making some pro-gay moves, but this is not one of them.

Is this much ado about nothing or a boycott I ought to consider joining?

That's your call, but this certainly won't keep me from saving a lot, and avaoiding Target. I reallllly hate Target.

I mostly avoid Walmart because I don't like being forced to buy Chinese goods.

Wal Mart DID say that their cashiers would be allowed to say MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Conservative Christian organizations need to find better ways to spend their time and effort. This is nothing more than an everyday business practice.

Who is forcing you to buy Chinese goods in WalMart?

And there is another thing! The majority of their products are from China. I don't support communism either!

How about making a comment you know something about - instead of the talking points of the extremists radicals.

I had one tell me to "have a blessed day" today and I just about fell down!

I thought the clerk must have been a wild maverick who didn't care about losing her lucrative contract with the company.

You are right, I am wrong. The remark was uncalled for. I apologize.

"For the most part, I'm shopping a whole lot less."

Thats really interesting. How are you shopping less? I lead a simple life and if I could shop less, it would be super for me.

Look, Wal Mart supports the Black Chamber of Commerce, the Hispanic Chamber, The womens Chamber, The Veterans Chamber of Commerce, so why would they not support the Gay one?

Do i like it, nO, but frankly, as long as they provide support to the Boy Scouts (at probably $1,000 to the Boy Scouts for each $1 to the gay thing, I'm happy. (all fugures are wild guesses, the local Wal Mart has given a lot to our Boy Scouts)

Get mad at the United Way. They actively support planned parenthood, abortion, Gay groups, and every other lefty organization on the planet. And have dropped the Boy Scouts from their groups because of the anti-gay stand.

Well, just because I'm thinking of taking up smoking for the principle of it to fight the SmokeGnatzies...I don't think I'm going to go gay, if that's OK, LOL!
