How strange is this? The nation’s chief law enforcement officer cannot say whether “waterboarding” is illegal. At a recent Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Attorney General Michael Mukasey acknowledged under questioning that he would feel tortured if he were waterboarded, but he staunchly refused to say whether it was illegal. A heinous technique dating back to the Spanish Inquisition, waterboarding involves strapping a prisoner down and pouring water over his cloth-covered face to create a sensation of imminent drowning. Mukasey -- whose confirmation for the Cabinet post was championed by two Democrats, Sens. Charles Schumer of New York and Dianne Feinstein...

You rallied behind someone who never had their heart in the race and was never a leader in their life (Thompson) or never had a chance in hell (Hunter). What is needed more than anything to win the WH is a drive to do the spade work necessary to get there. So by denying Romney victory in IA and NH and SC, and splitting the field, you now have probably the worst enemy of all - someone the Wonderful Mr. Jim Robinson never saw fit to put a 'truth file' on. So, nice work.

I know Free Republic members overwhelmingly don't want John McCain. He's not my choice. But I was just listening to Glenn Beck saying that Hilary Cinton will be better, that Bill Clinton's election in 1992 was the "best thing" that ever happened to America, that the country will be in such dire straights after four years of Hilary, that a "Churchill" will be needed to sort it out. This on top of Rush's statements and Coulter's.But folks, if Free Republic becomes the "Hilary will be better" site well I don't care if Barry Goldwater comes back and says it, that is...

Granted, it came at the very end of the forum on cancer that Lance Armstrong organized today in Iowa. But if you're Chris Matthews, and in response to your final question a presidential candidate recites an ode to collectivism, a denunciation of individualism, and throws in mind-boggling claim that people don't want tax cuts, don't you somehow find a moment to follow up? Not if you're Chris Matthews.View video here. Here's how it went down today in Iowa on MSNBC at 12:55 P.M. EDT as Matthews interviewed Bill Richardson (D-N.M.):CHRIS MATTHEWS: We have a president who was elected a couple...

About me: Lurker - since 1998 Member - since 1999 In self-imposed exile - since April 2007 The tone of the debate and the attacks on long-time fellow Freepers for the cardinal sin of daring to support Rudy Giuliani in early 2007 around here have really saddened me. Instead of fighting the enemy FR is now imposing an 'ideological purity' test on FR members. The well-oiled train has gone off the rails and Mr. Robinson risks becoming the next Joe Farah - a fellow who started a great website for conservative news and opinions, but who gradually drifted off to...

Conservative Christian organizations in the United States are contacting supporters to urge a boycott of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. after U.S. Thanksgiving weekend, because the company is paying a commission to a small gay organization for sending buyers its way. Each purchase made by clicking through the gay group's website to Wal-Mart's retail site generates a payment worth 5 per cent of the sale. Donald Wildmon, chair of the American Family Association, said Friday his group has sent emails to 3 million supporters urging a boycott because the deal suggests Wal-Mart executives believe "the homosexual agenda is worthy of their support."...

I've been a Fox News viewer from the very beginning, long before Fox & Friends was created. I remember when E.D. first appeared, filling in for Alison Costarini during the morning news. I've watched Steve, E.D., Brian faithfully all these years, and found them a wonderful break from the MSM's morning spew. I will admit, I miss E.D., but I was willing to given Gretchen the benefit of the doubt at taking her place. Her performance has been lackluster and this morning she just sank the show for me. How? Gretchen Carlson went out of her way to correct Steve...

Not content with all the profanity already on TV, CBS has decided to air the profanity-laden unedited version of "9/11" on Sept. 10. The decision by CBS is a slap in the face to the FCC and Congress, which recently raised indecency fines to $325,000 per incident. "9/11," which will be shown in prime-time, contains a tremendous amount of hardcore profanity. CBS has stated they have not, and will not, make any cuts in the amount and degree of profanity. CBS will ignore the law. The network is suing the FCC over the indecency law, saying they should be able...

Well, I've been around here for 8 years or so... I don't think I have ever asked Freepers for help for myself. I have asked for help for a person in distress who is from the UK and was having a crisis in Fresno, CA...Freepers came through. So here is my problem...my 18 year old daughter, who was raised by her mother since our split 8 years ago, announced at her high school graduation last Sunday that she will be attending San Francisco State University. I have spoken with her about it, and the conversation was confrontational and unproductive... Please,...

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - With the clamor over religious thriller "The Da Vinci Code" barely fading, a major Hollywood studio is mining the same vein with a Satanic "666" marketing campaign for its new horror film. "The Omen", a remake of the 1976 horror classic, is the kind of film that routinely makes it big at the box office, appealing to the coveted demographic of young and predominantly male thrill-seekers. Twentieth Century Fox has banked "The Omen" on a promotional campaign based on "666", the number associated with Satan, based on Revelation, the last book in the Bible. Even the...

A local Ft. The husband also admitted to taking nude photos of her while she slept. Full story here.

WASHINGTON (CNS) -- The president of the U.S. bishops blasted a recent episode of the cable television comedy "South Park" that he said showed Mary in "a tasteless and ugly fashion."In a Dec. 14 letter to Tom Freston, co-president and chief operating officer of Viacom International, parent company of Comedy Central, the cable channel that shows "South Park," Bishop William S. Skylstad of Spokane, Wash., said the channel showed "extreme insensitivity" in choosing to show the episode. The episode, which first was shown Dec. 7 and had repeat showings in the week following, was titled "Bloody Mary." >Consider this:****On Wilson/Plame/Leakgate/ and the rest.................................. Speaking of Chappaqua Rose, to me this whole thing has Hillary's fingerprints all over it. Remember when she "fudged" things when she was involved in writing up the articles of impeachment for Nixon?*** From http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/benshapiro/2003/06/19/169878.html Hillary Clinton cut her teeth on the Watergate scandal. As a counsel for the House Judiciary Committee impeachment inquiry staff, she made it her mission to topple President Nixon. Hillary helped drafted a document that would provide the legal basis for three articles of impeachment. The House Judiciary Committee's former chief counsel, Jerome Zeifman, later revealed that the Hillary-penned...

I’ve just received a credible tip from an LGF reader that an America West flight out of New York was fired upon by a surface to air missile yesterday, and that the pilot and passengers witnessed it and are now being questioned by the FAA and FBI. That’s the extent of the information I currently have, and please note: right now this is completely unverified.

If Drudge is right that the Pentagon is planning to dump more abuse photos from Abu Ghraib, there is no use --we should just surrender. If I had a loved one in harm's way, I'd tell them to desert. We can't win a war this way. Our media and governmanetal elites simply won't let us win this war. Bush is too weak and the Republicans in Congress are intimidated by the big Beltway Media. The grunt and the Average patriotic American doesn't have anybody fighting for them. There is no mass movement to defend the honor of the American military...

In yesterday's (March 27) Los Angeles Times, media reporter and critic David Shaw demonstrates Oscar Wilde's maxim that modern journalism is important—if only because it keeps us in touch with the ignorance of the community. Giving every indication that he's read a lot of stories about bloggers but not that many actual blogs, Shaw disparages the form as the error-filled rants of amateurs in his piece, "Do Bloggers Deserve Basic Journalistic Protections?" It's a "solipsistic, self-aggrandizing journalist-wannabe genre," Shaw writes. Without naming a specific offender—except Matt Drudge, who he acknowledges really isn't a blogger—Shaw generalizes about bloggers for 1,300 gassy...

Intermediate Draft, seeking FReeper input. South Boston Phoenix Special Report “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” (Edmund Burke) GW Bush dared to invoke the 'G' word, 'God', three times in his 2005 Inaugural Speech. The most talked-about reaction came from Peggy Noonan. The irony is how low the Bush Administration has sunk in order to not look 'overly'-Christian: 1. In his speech, the President, OUR President, spoke well of the Koran, the religion with scriptures that demand the killing of any infidels too weak to retaliate and too 'proud' to submit...

Hi all, I need some help and I am fuming about this. Today an incident happened at my son's school that concerns me greatly. He is in 4th Grade and is age nine. One of his friends brought a small pocket knife to school and allegedly showed it to my son and others at their lunch table. Apparently he did not open the blade, and quickly put it away. No one was threatened. They are all friends in scouts, church, or sports. One of the other children after lunch, not mine, told a teacher about it. I get a phone...

A movie whose purpose is to prove that Jesus Christ never existed and that demonizes Christian fundamentalists is scheduled to open on June 6, 2006 – that is, 06-06-06, the "666" biblical mark of the Beast. Directed by Brian Flemming, who is described on the film's website as a "former fundamentalist Christian," "The Beast" promises to spread the theory he claims is "gaining credibility among scholars" – that Jesus was made up out of thin air. "The authors of the Gospels, writing 40 to 90 years after the supposed life of Christ, never intended for their works to be read...

I was shocked to find that WND readers believed that Edwards won last night's debate. As I researched recent polls, I found that anywhere between 2,000-6,500 people participate each day in WND polls. The problem came when I found that by 9:00 AM, over 10,000 individuals had participated. Democratic Terrorists????

By Brian Braiker Newsweek Updated: 6:04 p.m. ET Oct. 2, 2004Oct. 2 - With a solid majority of voters concluding that John Kerry outperformed George W. Bush in the first presidential debate on Thursday, the president’s lead in the race for the White House has vanished, according to the latest NEWSWEEK poll. In the first national telephone poll using a fresh sample, NEWSWEEK found the race now statistically tied among all registered voters, 47 percent of whom say they would vote for Kerry and 45 percent for George W. Bush in a three-way race. Removing Independent candidate Ralph Nader, who...

Hold the bacon Apart from Hurricane Charley, we've been following a most intriguing story out of Orlando, Fla., where a woman says she was fired from her job because she ate a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich at work, offending Muslim employees. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Lina Morales has filed a religious-discrimination lawsuit against Rising Star Telecommunications, saying she lost her administrative position because she violated a policy banning pork and pork products from the workplace. She says the rule "constitutes religious discrimination because it is based in Islamic law for the benefit of some Muslim employees who were...

Los Angeles, CA (June 5, 2004) – Screen Actors Guild (SAG) President Melissa Gilbert issued the following statement on the death of former President Ronald Reagan, who served as president of SAG from 1947 to 1952 and again from 1959 to 1960: "Ronald Reagan presided over Screen Actors Guild at one of the most challenging moments in our union's history, as the rise of television significantly impacted the compensation and working conditions for the nation's screen actors. Under his tenure, SAG grew significantly in size and influence as the Guild tackled issues ranging from runaway production, to fair compensation, to...

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House rejected legislation that could have led to hospital emergency rooms denying some services to illegal aliens while helping to get them kicked out of the country. Hispanic legislators led opposition to the bill, joining medical groups in contending that it would turn hospitals into law enforcement agencies and prevent illegal residents from seeking life-saving medical treatment. It was defeated 331-88. The legislation came to the House floor as a result of a promise that GOP leaders made to Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., in exchange for his vote on the Medicare prescription drug bill that narrowly...
