Gay link sparks Wal-Mart boycott
Toronto Star ^ | 13 November 2006 | Marilyn Geewax

Conservative Christian organizations in the United States are contacting supporters to urge a boycott of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. after U.S. Thanksgiving weekend, because the company is paying a commission to a small gay organization for sending buyers its way.

Each purchase made by clicking through the gay group's website to Wal-Mart's retail site generates a payment worth 5 per cent of the sale.

Donald Wildmon, chair of the American Family Association, said Friday his group has sent emails to 3 million supporters urging a boycott because the deal suggests Wal-Mart executives believe "the homosexual agenda is worthy of their support."

. . .

. . . since August, conservative groups have been hammering Wal-Mart for agreeing to enter into a partnership with the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. The company said it forges business partnerships with many minority organizations to help it attract a diverse array of suppliers.

Because that's mostly what they have. Really, i'm with the other poster, I shop a lot less than I used to. I have too much crap. We had a health fair yesterday and some of the old ladies where I work were walking around filling up plastic bags with the "gimmes" and I was like, don't you have enough of that garbage?

Course I don't make the money I was making in the late 90s either.

Why would you want to join an evangelical lunatic group? Wal-Mart is an equal opportunity capitalist. If this lunatic group would just sign up for the same program the gay group did, it would rake in lots of money for its cause. Instead it is steering its members to other (generally pricier) merchants, and simultaneously providing oodles of free publicity to the gay group so that IT will now make a lot more money from the program than it otherwise would have.

What is it with Wal-Mart? This excellent company seems to be a magnet for lunatics on both extremes of the socio-political spectrum.

Where do you shop? You do know that Target, Home Depot, Lowes, Costco and just about every other large retailer and many, many small retailers in this country sell Chinese made goods.

Unfortunately, if you're trying to avoid Chinese products, you have very few shopping options.

Hey, that's a great idea. Try Overstock. And Froogle if you're looking for something specific.

I have 35 yr. old son.
He came by my home today and , ask my wife and I if we needed anything from town. I replied, are you going by WalMart? His reply was no, why what do you need? I ask, why aren't you shopping at WalMart? He replied, because of their support for the gays. Whats with the Gays I ask? He replied, haven't you heard of their support for the Gay agenda? Yes I replied but had no idea you knew about it. They are talking about it at the church we are attending, a big church buy the way.
My son is one that doesn't follow the news are politics, however, I know he votes every election and, always Republican.
So I know there will be 300 to 400 people in my area who will not be spending a dime with WalMart this season. It will possible be more, the church he belongs to has alliances with as many as 100 other churches. If I were guessing I would say his info. came from the head of the denomination and I have no idea how many thousand people who will be doing the wishes of the main body of the church leaders.

Look, Wal Mart supports the Black Chamber of Commerce, the Hispanic Chamber, The womens Chamber, The Veterans Chamber of Commerce, so why would they not support the Gay one?

Because "gay" is an immoral behavior. What other immoral sexual "diversities" do they sponsor? Or even moral? Do they give to AFA?

I am happy that you are happy with Wal-Mart. You cannot spend my money for me.

I do not give to the United Way. I didn't even do it when a company I worked for pressured its employees to do it. I follow my own conscience.

Thanks Graybeard58, your pretty stand-up.

My Wal-Mart comments were not meant to be taken personally.

Wal-Mart threads, for some reason, really get people to fussin'. I prefer to keep that aspect amusing not annoying, so if I offended, My apologies as well.

Who cares. I'll keep shopping there as long as I get what I want for a considerably better price than other local stores.

Oh yeah... Merry Christmas WalMart! I'll shop there along with gays, lesbians and asexuals. As long as I can get the same 5% as a gay group, no problem.

The American Family Association may be a lot of things, but I would never call them an "evangelical lunatic group". In fact, the only folks I have ever heard refer to the AFA as "lunatic" anything is the homosexual lobby...

I think you simply have something against anything remotely evangelical (what the Bible commands all Christians to be).

You didn't answer my question. You said you were forced to buy chinese stuff and I asked you who was forcing you.

BTW, not one item I have purchased in WalMart in my last 3 or 4 trips was made in China.

That is one additional reason I do not shop at Wal-Mart. Their cost vs quality was my biggest issue.

If I want to buy a $10.00 skirt to save the money I will. But, I refuse to pay $25.00+ for a skirt worth $5.00.

There are many things I avoid for personal ethics. Many things I do not mind doing without. Cheap clothes at an inflated price to benefit foreign countries is just one of those things. Wal-Mart has a high percentage of Chinese goods, they do not provide the choices I prefer.

Or, perhaps their on consciences?

Gays are an abomination. No Christian needs to be told that. Knowingly supporting those who support abominations is passive acceptance of that sin.

JUST my opinion - not my pastors.
