"Wear a Hijab/Turban Day"

100 turn out in Fremont for ``Wear a Hijab/Turban Day.'' EVENT PROMPTED BY SLAYING OF AFGHAN MOTHER OF SIX

They came in saffron turbans, glittering purple head scarves and blue yarmulkes to show that Fremont is not a hateful place.

The catalyst for the grass-roots event was the Oct. 19 slaying of Alia Ansari. The 38-year-old mother of six was gunned down as she picked up her children from a Fremont elementary school. The Afghan native wore a chador -- a loose scarf that is also called a hijab -- over her head, as a sign of modesty mandated in Islam.

No one has been arrested in connection with her death. Many community members believe it was a hate crime, although police have no evidence of who did it or why.

This troubles me. I am greatly opposed to Islam. I am for this reason greatly opposed to any act that will give the Islamic community sympathy.

I'm going to wear a turban with a big ol' caricature of Mohammed on it. :)

Perhaps they should wait until more details are available before this gets branded as a hate crime?

Honor killing? Was she an informant? Was she a moderate who spoke out against radicals? All possibilities.

100 turn out in Fremont

I'll wager not one of them turned out to demonstrate 9/11, or the beheadings, or any of the barbaric outrages committed by koranimals.

No kidding! They have no suspect and assume it was a hate crime. I'm ticked. I do not condone murder under any circumstance. That the woman was a mother of six is terrible. But if some jerk murdered this woman because she is Muslim, the criminal did harm well beyond murder alone. The murderer gave the religion I personally view as the major threat to our heritage sympathy and support.

My thoughts too. It could very well be the murderer is Muslim also.

Undoubtedly the local Muslim community clammed up and hindered proper investigation. Very doubtful this was a hate crime done by a non Muslim. Some local yokel Muzz done it

More than likely one of these.

Turbans are worn by Sikhs. The Sikhs are on our side.

Why did I sense the exact same opinions you wrote when I first read this article? This story and how it was used to manipulate sympathy from around the world deeply troubles me.

I will add this. If I witness any non-Muslim attempting to commit a crime against a Muslim, I will act to prevent the crime so no further outpouring of sympathy for Islam will not occur. We don't need some wacko opening another front of attack.

That fact that a Muslim becomes the victim of a random street crime does not necessarly mean it was a hate crime.

That being said, we must not become like our enemy lest we become the enemy.

Yes they are on our side. It is very hard to tell who is who though. Usually the Skih men don't cut their hair either. I know as my daughter is married to one from India and he is very much against the Muslims. Since so many of them wear turbans its hard to tell who is Skih, Paki, etc anymore.
